A welcoming and highly supportive SEND provision in Spalding is seeking a welcoming and highly supportive SEND provision in Spalding is seeking a Sensory Support Worker to join their specialist team from September. The provision supports pupils with a variety of complex needs, including autism, severe learning difficulties, sensory processing differences and communication needs.
The school places a strong emphasis on sensory-based learning and regulation strategies, recognising that pupils learn best when their sensory needs are understood and supported effectively. Staff work collaboratively to provide structured, engaging and calming learning environments which enable pupils to feel safe, regulated and ready to learn.
This role is full-time and carries the potential to become a permanent position.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support pupils in accessing learning through personalised sensory strategies and sensory-based interventions.
- Assist with the delivery of sensory circuits, sensory breaks and sensory regulation programmes throughout the school day.
- Prepare and maintain sensory resources, equipment and learning environments tailored to individual pupil needs.
- Observe pupil responses to sensory activities and adapt support accordingly.
- Work alongside teachers, therapists and SEND professionals to implement sensory recommendations and EHCP outcomes.
- Support pupils during transitions, unstructured times and situations that may cause sensory overload or anxiety.
- Encourage communication, engagement and participation through multi-sensory learning approaches.
- Help pupils develop self-regulation skills and greater awareness of their sensory needs.
- Promote independence, emotional wellbeing and positive engagement with learning opportunities.
- Maintain accurate observations and contribute to progress reviews and support plans.
Pre-requisites:
- Experience supporting children or young people with SEND, autism, learning disabilities or sensory needs.
- Understanding of sensory processing differences and sensory regulation strategies.
- Ability to build positive relationships with pupils who communicate in a variety of ways.
- Patient, nurturing and adaptable approach.
- Strong observation and communication skills.
- Experience working within education, care or therapy environments is beneficial.
- Relevant qualifications in Childcare, SEND, Health & Social Care or equivalent experience desirable.
Pay: £95.00-£110.00 per day
