Join the Chickpea Group Team!
We’re on the hunt for a passionate and motivated Junior Sous Chef to join us at The Great Decoy in Hurstbourne Tarrant.
The Great Decoy is our newest pub and first in Hampshire. Home to eight (soon to be ten) bedrooms, classic pub bangers and Nole pizza. Set in the heart of Hampshire's Test Valley, it marks an exciting new chapter for Chickpea as we continue bringing well-loved pubs back to life, one village at a time.
Food sits at the heart of everything we do. We cook with the seasons, work closely with local suppliers, and let great produce lead the menu. We keep things simple, make as much as we can from scratch and believe brilliant ingredients don't need unnecessary fuss.
We're looking for a Junior Sous Chef who leads by example, sets high standards, and collaborates with the Head Chef to create a kitchen where people can thrive. Our food ethos is shaped collaboratively by the kitchen teams across the group, so your role is to help deliver it brilliantly, service after service, while contributing to an environment where people can develop and do their best work.
What you'll get
· Structured (but relaxed) training programs
· Clear progression pathways
. Paid overtime
· 50% off food for you and up to five guests at all our places (Monday-Thursday)
· Monthly team rewards
· £100 birthday voucher
· Uniform provided and laundered
· Supplier trips & team days out
What You’ll Be Doing
· Inspire, mentor, and help manage the kitchen team, building a culture of excellence.
· Take ownership of day-to-day kitchen operations—stock, prep, quality, and efficiency.
· Collaborate with the Head Chef to craft innovative menus, specials, and seasonal dishes.
· Ensure every plate leaving the kitchen is consistent, perfectly presented, and full of flavour.
· Uphold the highest hygiene, health & safety, and kitchen standards.
· Drive performance, training, and development for junior team members.
Who We’re Looking For
· Proven experience as a Chef de Partie or similar, ready to step into leadership.
· Passionate about food, creative in approach, and committed to excellence.
· Natural leader who inspires, motivates, and develops others.
· Detail-oriented, reliable, and excited to take ownership of a kitchen.
· Positive, energetic, and ready to help build something extraordinary.
