About the role
Balfour Beatty’s Power Transmission & Distribution business is delivering some of the UK’s most ambitious energy infrastructure projects, driving decarbonisation and innovation at every turn.
We are seeking a Risk Manager to join our Power T&D Innovation Team. In this
role, you will lead the development, challenge, governance and management of project risk information across both the baseline risk process and in-flight delivery stage. The role will provide project-facing risk leadership, ensuring risk registers are technically robust, commercially aligned, evidence-based, client-facing where required and capable of supporting project governance, GTIC/BTIC review, client scrutiny and portfolio-level reporting.
Hybrid working - 3 days in the office and 2 days working from home
What you'll be doing
- Lead the development, review and governance of project risk registers across Stage 1 and Stage 2 Project Lifecycles.
- Lead collaborative risk workshops with commercial, project, estimating and client risk teams.
- Challenge risk identification, root-cause analysis, risk structuring, ownership, mitigation and residual exposure
- Review and validate 3-point cost and schedule estimates, probability assumptions and concurrency logic
- Ensure QSRA inputs are aligned with the project programme, quantified risk position and delivery assumptions
- Ensure risk registers are GTIC/BTIC-ready and client-facing versions are suitable for review and sign-off
- Lead in-flight risk management, including emerging risk assessment, mitigation tracking, contingency movement and exposure updates
- Support client risk reduction meetings and ensure actions are captured, owned and reflected in the live risk position
- Support compensation event recovery through clear risk data, evidence, exposure movement and supporting narrative
- Produce project and group-level reporting that provides clear, data-driven insight for leadership and governance forums
- Guide Risk Analysts and support consistent data quality, version control, evidence capture and reporting outputs
Who we're looking for
- Professional certification such as Institute of Risk Management membership or APM Risk Practitioner (desirable)
- Experience working in a dedicated Risk Management role within medium to large organisations.
- Strong understanding of risk and control processes and their application across complex business environments.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and influencing skills, with the ability to engage senior management and stakeholders at all levels.
- QCRA / QSRA experience
- Proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships across multiple stakeholder groups.
- Skilled in workshop facilitation and delivery of training sessions
