The Mercure Newcastle, George Washington Hotel Golf & Spa is an independently owned and operated property that has been part of the Accor network for over 15-years. Besides Golf, we have 125-guest-rooms, a destination restaurant and bar: Carter & Fitch Smokehouse Pizzeria, Montana Spa and Fitness has a fully equipped Life Fitness Gym, Swimming Pool, Spa Pool, Sauna, and Steam Room and our banqueting facilities are sufficient to seat over 400 diners at once.
The Golf Club consists of an 18-hole Championship Golf Course, Clubhouse and Golf Shop (former location of the Sunderland Masters), a 17-bay Driving Range powered by TopTracer with a food and beverage outlet: the Halfway House on the tenth tee,

Job Description
An exciting opportunity has arisen at the Mercure Newcastle George Washington Hotel, Golf and Spa, for a Golf Club Manager.
You are a passionate and devoted Golfer and are already heavily involved and connected in the Golf scene in the North East of England.
Reporting to the Deputy General Manager you will function as the operational business leader of the Golf department with overall responsibility for golf operations including: membership, societies, golf retail, two golf food and beverage outlets, driving range powered by TopTracer, corporate golf events and guest satisfaction.
Be an ambassador of the brand and the property, where your leadership, strong interpersonal skills and strategic vision will drive an engaged team, guest satisfaction and maximised operating results. You will bring your strong commercial and business acumen, and tenacity to drive the top line to exceed targets, and to position the Golf Club in the local marketplace.

You will be responsible for:

Oversight of all Golf retail, food beverage, tee time, membership, society operations.
-
Working productively 90% of working time, leading from the front within the Golf Shop.

Membership and Committee relations at the core of all Golf department activity.

Promotes National and Local Corporate Golf Memberships
-
Leads the execution of the Golf department’s Operating Strategy.
-
Manages the retail operation by ensuring the golf shop is properly stocked, straightened and cleaned on a daily basis.

Recommends promotional sales of merchandise to increase revenue.

Ensures all golf equipment is in good condition and receives regular maintenance.

Identifies and recommends new products or equipment and product enhancements to remain competitive in the market.

Confirms and coordinates group arrivals and organises group golf events; oversees tournament coordination (e.g., pairing of players, equipment rentals, tabulation of scores, and prize selection and distribution).

Oversees the booking of tee times using BRS, and driving range bays using SweetSpot to ensure maximum yield.

Dynamic adjustment of tee time and bay pricing to ensure revenue yield is optimised for peak times.

Monitors the playing time of golfers to ensure optimal speed of play on the course and intercepting trespassers.

Schedules staff in accordance to business demands including lone working through winter.

Ensures the golf course and retail outlets are safe and secure for both guests and associates.

Communicates information vital to the success of the golf department (e.g., the business goals and objectives, performance of the department against goals, organisational changes) via team meetings with staff.

Collates and sends weekly updates to the membership to ensure they have the best experience of all benefits available to them.

Converses with management team to ensure smooth integration of hotel group business; communicates golf forecast and course maintenance downtime for positive guest experience.

Able to train and execute departmental emergency procedures.

Develop relationships within the local community.

Drive a culture of service excellence to all the team and committee members.

Lead from the front exemplifying excellent customer service to all guests creating a positive club atmosphere.
Qualifications
Your experience and skills include:

Previous experience Managing a Golf Club or Department.

Passionate to grow and develop self and others.

A proven leader who is able to inspire others.

Strong business acumen and demonstrated success in driving the commercial performance of previous Golf businesses and delivering on KPIs.
