We are looking for an experienced Children’s Residential Home Manager to lead a children’s residential care service in Scotland. The manager will be responsible for the safe and effective running of the home, making sure children and young people receive high quality care in a safe, nurturing and well-managed environment.
The successful applicant must understand residential childcare, safeguarding, trauma-informed practice and the expectations of the Care Inspectorate and SSSC.
Required Qualifications and Registration
Applicants must hold, or be willing to work towards where permitted by SSSC, the qualifications required to manage a children’s residential care service in Scotland.
This will normally include:
SVQ Social Services Children and Young People SCQF Level 9, or an equivalent recognised childcare/social care qualification.
A recognised management qualification, normally at SCQF Level 9 or above, such as a leadership and management award accepted by SSSC.
Applicants must also:
Be registered, or eligible to register, with the Scottish Social Services Council as a manager of a residential childcare service.
Be a member of the PVG Scheme for regulated work with children.
Be able to provide evidence of qualifications, employment history, references and suitability to work with children and young people.
Main Duties
The Home Manager will:
Lead the day-to-day running of the children’s home.
Make sure children and young people are safe, supported and listened to.
Manage safeguarding concerns, incidents, risks and professional reporting.
Lead, supervise and support staff practice.
Oversee care plans, risk assessments, daily records, incident reports and key work.
Work with social workers, families, education, health professionals and placing authorities.
Prepare the service for Care Inspectorate inspection and maintain high standards.
Manage rotas, staffing levels, audits, quality assurance and service improvement.
Promote children’s rights, positive relationships and trauma-informed care.
The Person We Are Looking For
We are looking for someone who is calm, reliable and confident in decision-making. The right person will be warm and approachable with children and young people, while still being able to lead staff, manage risk and challenge poor practice when needed.
You should be organised, professional and able to keep clear records. You must understand safeguarding, confidentiality, professional boundaries and the importance of creating a homely but safe environment for children and young people.
Previous experience in residential childcare or children’s services is essential. Management or deputy management experience in a children’s residential setting is preferred.
