The Role
We are seeking a motivated and reliable Assistant Welder / Fabricator to join our growing workshop team. In this role, you will work closely alongside our senior fabricators, providing crucial support in preparing materials, executing basic welding tasks, and finishing high-quality metal products.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with foundational fabrication skills who is eager to learn, develop their trade, and progress within a fast-paced fabrication environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist senior welders and fabricators with the assembly and fabrication of metal components and structures.
- Prepare materials by measuring, marking, cutting, grinding, and cleaning metal surfaces.
- MIG and TIG welding of mild steel, stainless steel and other architectural metals.
- Read and interpret technical and fabrication drawings accurately.
- Assist with finishing processes, including grinding, polishing, and preparing products for installation.
- Load, unload, and move materials using appropriate handling equipment.
- Operate workshop machinery, hand tools and fabrication equipment safely.
- Always ensure compliance with health and safety procedures.
- Press and guillotine working
Essential Requirements
- Previous experience in welding, fabrication, manufacturing, or a similar workshop environment is preferred.
- Basic hands-on experience or formal training in MIG welding and metal fabrication.
- Ability to understand basic measurements and introductory technical drawing layouts.
- High attention to detail and pride in workmanship.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Desirable Skills
- Relevant vocational qualifications (e.g., NVQ Level 1 or 2 in Welding/Fabrication or similar college certifications)
- Basic experience or exposure to TIG welding.
- Experience with custom metal fabrication or architectural metalwork is an advantage.
