We're looking for an Assistant Accountant (12months FTC) to join our Finance Shared Service Centre team based in Manchester.
Location: Manchester – Optimum House
Hours: 37.5 per week - 12 months FTC - This role offers a hybrid working, with time split between our Manchester office and home working.

Kier Group plc is seeking an Assistant Accountant to join our Finance Shared Service Centre (FSSC) in Manchester. This is a fantastic opportunity to support the Record to Report team in delivering accurate, timely and compliant financial accounting services. You'll play a key role in maintaining the integrity of financial information and supporting business reporting requirements, whilst developing your career in a supportive and collaborative environment.
What will you be responsible for?
As an Assistant Accountant, you'll be working within the Record to Report team, supporting them in delivering accurate financial accounting services and maintaining financial control.
Your day to day will include:
- Preparing and maintaining balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring accuracy and compliance with internal control requirements
- Supporting month-end, quarter-end and year-end close activities to ensure timely financial reporting
- Performing intercompany reconciliations and liaising with finance colleagues across the Group to resolve queries
- Producing accurate management information and supporting financial analysis for stakeholders
- Identifying opportunities to improve processes and supporting automation initiatives across the function
What are we looking for?
This role of Assistant Accountant is great for you if:
- You are AAT qualified, studying towards AAT, or hold a degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline
- Previous experience of month-end accounting activities, including balance sheet reconciliations and journal processing
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and have experience with ERP systems (Oracle preferred)
- Strong organisational and time management skills with a proactive approach to problem-solving
- You are a collaborative team player with effective communication skills and a customer-focused mindset
