We are excited to be launching a newly refurbished Ds Klassic African Grill, Restaurant & Lounge in the heart of Birmingham. Under new management, we are building a passionate and dedicated team to deliver exceptional food, drinks and customer service in a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere.
We are looking for enthusiastic, friendly and professional General Assistant who are passionate about hospitality and enjoy creating memorable dining experiences for our guests.
Job Summary
As a General Assistant you will be the face of our restaurant, providing outstanding customer service from the moment guests arrive until they leave. You will be responsible for taking food and drink orders, serving meals and beverages, and ensuring every customer enjoys a welcoming and enjoyable dining experience.
This role requires excellent communication skills, a positive attitude, and the ability to work efficiently in a busy hospitality environment. Evening, weekend and late-night shifts will form part of the role.
Key Responsibilities
- Welcome guests and provide friendly, professional and attentive customer service.
- Present menus and answer customer questions about food and drinks.
- Take accurate food and beverage orders using the restaurant's ordering system.
- Serve food and drinks promptly and professionally.
- Ensure tables are clean, prepared and presented to a high standard.
- Check in with guests throughout their visit to ensure satisfaction.
- Handle customer queries and concerns politely, escalating issues to management where appropriate.
- Process customer payments accurately.
- Work closely with bartenders, kitchen staff and management to ensure smooth service.
- Assist with setting up before service and cleaning down at the end of shifts.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness, hygiene and presentation throughout the restaurant.
- Follow all Health & Safety and food hygiene procedures.
- Assist with late-night closing duties when required.
Essential Requirements
- Previous experience working as a general assistant or front of house team member in a restaurant, lounge, bar or similar hospitality environment.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Friendly, professional and approachable attitude.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong teamwork and organisational skills.
- Reliable, punctual and well-presented.
- Willingness to work evenings, weekends and late-night shifts.
- A Level 2 Health & Safety qualification (or willingness to complete this qualification with our support).
- Right to work in the UK.
Desirable
- Previous experience in a restaurant, lounge or hospitality venue.
- Knowledge of food safety and customer service best practices.
- Experience using electronic ordering or point-of-sale (POS) systems.
- Confidence recommending menu items and upselling food and drinks.
