Build commercial experience around the world of sport
Oakwood Group is recruiting a Sports Marketing Executive to support promotional work connected with brands including Everlast, DAZN and Under Armour. This position is suited to someone who understands the energy, loyalty and competitive nature of sport and wants to apply that interest within a commercial career.
You will gain practical experience in campaign preparation, live brand activity, audience engagement and performance reviews. Training and guidance will be provided as you develop, with the potential to work towards a Trainee Marketing Manager position and later a Campaign Manager role. Progression will depend on your results, capability and the opportunities available within the business.
How the role will develop
During your first few months, you will learn how Oakwood Group turns a client brief into organised promotional activity. This will include understanding brand expectations, preparing materials, communicating with customers and recording results accurately.
You will initially work with guidance from experienced colleagues. As your judgement and consistency improve, you will contribute more directly to planning, delivery and post-activity reviews.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Reviewing briefs to understand the brand, intended audience and required outcomes
- Supporting promotional activity for Everlast, DAZN, Under Armour and other partners
- Preparing schedules, materials and practical requirements before each event
- Coordinating with colleagues so activity remains organised and on time
- Representing partner brands professionally during live promotions
- Speaking with customers and communicating key messages clearly
- Recording audience responses, feedback and relevant performance information
- Contributing practical ideas to improve reach and customer engagement
- Assisting with final reviews and identifying lessons for future work
This is an active, customer-facing position rather than one based entirely behind a computer. Some days will focus on preparation and planning, while others will involve direct engagement at live locations.
Customer responses will vary, and not every approach will produce the expected outcome. Accuracy, preparation and deadlines matter, so you must be able to take feedback, adjust your approach and remain professional when results take time.
What Oakwood Group offers
The starting salary is £29,000 per year, with some flexibility depending on the relevant skills and experience you bring.
You will also receive:
- Training in planning, delivery and performance review
- Experience working on activity for recognised sports and media brands
- Guidance from colleagues with practical industry knowledge
- Exposure to live events and audience-facing promotions
- Development in communication, organisation and commercial awareness
- A potential route into marketing and campaign management
Development opportunities are performance-based and should not be viewed as automatic promotions after a fixed period.
Who could suit this position
Previous marketing experience is useful but not essential. Applications are welcome from recent graduates, candidates with a sporting background and people bringing transferable experience from another customer-facing or target-based position.
A qualification in marketing, sport, sports management, events or business may be relevant, but it is not required. Practical ability, professionalism and willingness to learn will also be considered.
You should be able to demonstrate:
- Clear and confident communication
- Genuine interest in brands, sport and audience behaviour
- A competitive approach combined with strong teamwork
- Good organisation when managing details and deadlines
- Resilience when responses or results are not as expected
- Willingness to receive coaching and apply feedback
- Professional conduct when representing Oakwood Group and its partners
- Reliable travel to the Liverpool workplace
Applicants must have the right to work in the UK and be able to meet the full working schedule.
Your working week
This is a full-time, on-site role based in Liverpool and accessible to applicants across the wider Merseyside area.
Your standard working hours will be:
Monday to Friday, 9:30am to 6:00pm
The position combines office-based preparation with practical promotional activity. It is best suited to someone who enjoys working with people and wants experience beyond purely digital or computer-based work.
Where the role could lead
Consistent performance may create the opportunity to develop towards a Trainee Marketing Manager position, building experience in coordination, team support and reporting.
Further development could lead to a Campaign Manager role with broader responsibility for planning, delivery standards and results. These are potential career routes rather than guaranteed promotions.
