Salary; £13.40 to £14.40 per hour, shift dependant
Contract type; Full Time – Fixed Permanent Contract: 36-48 hours, additional hours will be available during times of annual leave and sick absence cover.
Care Hours; We create fortnightly rolling rota’s for all team members. This opportunity has set hours inclusive of:-8am to 8pm, days, sleeping nights and waking nights.
About the Person You’ll Support: You’ll be working with a proud Geordie lad and lifelong Newcastle United fan — football is a big part of his identity, and he enjoys staff who are down to earth, informal, chatty, and reliable. He lives with an acquired brain injury (ABI) and restricted vision, and requires support with all areas of daily living, including moving and handling and nursing and personal care tasks. You won’t be doing this alone — support is always provided on a 2:1 basis, meaning you’ll work alongside an experienced member of the team every shift.
He enjoys getting out into the community, talking about anything NUFC, and has a real soft spot for animals (he’s previously owned both a tortoise and a parrot!).
There are also some challenges. He can experience periods of paranoia, confusion, and at times presents with verbally and occasionally physically challenging behaviour. Much of this links to frustration — his aphasia (presents almost slurred like) means his speech can be difficult to understand, and his ABI affects short-term memory, leading to repetition. This can be mentally tough for staff at times, so the role suits someone who is patient, resilient, and able to keep a positive mindset even on challenging days.
But the rewards are real. With time, consistency, and the right approach, you can build a strong, respectful relationship — one that truly makes a difference. Some of his team, have supported him for more than 10 years, which speaks for itself.

What training will you receive?
Working with this gentlemen will come with specialist training. You will be given clinical skills training and support from our own nurse and all staff receive accredited Positive Behaviour Support training to learn strategies for managing behaviours. New staff will always be on with an experienced member of the team allowing you to learn his daily routines and de-escalating strategies.
