We're Recruiting - Contracts Manager
Sheet Piling (UK) Limited | Head office Clayton-le-Woods, Chorley - 2 minutes from M6 J29 | UK-wide project travel
£60,000 to £70,000 depending on experience, plus company car or car allowance
Secured workload. Our own fleet. A seat at the table.
Sheet Piling (UK) Limited has been a specialist steel piling contractor since 1994. We own and operate our own plant, including a fleet of Giken silent piling presses, telescopic leader rigs with variable-moment vibratory hammers, and the world's first and the UK's only long-reach telescopic leader rigs. We also carry over 20,000 tonnes of new and used sheet pile stock, which means we can mobilise quickly when others can't.
Following the award of several significant schemes, our current forecast shows secured workload running through 2026 and into 2027, with further works already secured for the next 12 months. We are recruiting an experienced Contracts Manager to help deliver it.
This is not a role where you inherit someone else's programme and firefight. You will run your own contracts end to end, from pre-start through to handover, working directly with our directors and our in-house design team.
What you'll be doing
Reporting to the Construction Manager, you will take ownership of a portfolio of live contracts across the UK:
· Running pre-start briefings with site supervision, clients and principal contractors, so every job starts with the same understanding of scope, sequence and risk
· Managing site teams day to day, covering output, programme, quality and safety, and holding the delivery deadline
· Setting up and maintaining the site file: RAMS, lift plans, pile schedules, permits, drawings and records
· Procuring and coordinating in-house and hired plant, labour and materials, working with our Yard and Transport Managers to get the right kit to the right site on the right day
· Carrying out site inspections, audits and toolbox talks, and working alongside our HSEQ team
· Identifying variations early, tracking them, and raising commercial issues with the commercial team before they become disputes
· Attending progress and coordination meetings, and reporting on programme, cost and risk
· Being the person the site calls when something goes wrong, and the person who sorts it
What you'll need
Essential
· Proven experience in a Contracts Manager, Senior Contracts Engineer or Project Manager role with a sheet piling, piling or ground engineering contractor
· Sound practical knowledge of steel piling installation and temporary works support
· Working understanding of standard construction contracts (NEC, JCT), including the raising of Early Warning Notices and Compensation Events
· SMSTS, or the willingness to obtain it on appointment
· Valid CSCS Manager card
· The ability to travel independently to sites across the UK, including nights away when a job demands it
Desirable
· CPCS Appointed Person (Lifting Operations)
· Degree, HNC or HND in Civil, Structural or Geotechnical Engineering, or equivalent experience gained on site
· Experience of Giken silent piling, telescopic leader rigs, or marine and inland waterway works
· Temporary Works Coordinator training
Just as important: we want someone who flags a problem early rather than late, who manages site teams credibly and calmly, and who builds the kind of client relationships that bring the next scheme back to us.

Our work is UK-wide, so regular travel and periodic overnight stays are part of the role. We are happy to talk through how that works in practice.
