We are seeking an experienced researcher who thrives in multidisciplinary environments and is confident leading applied research projects and managing staff. You will bring a strong track record in using routinely collected health service data from both primary and secondary care to inform observational and interventional research.
In this role, you will lead the assessment of population health needs, design impactful interventions, and deliver robust service and research evaluations. You will apply a full range of mixed methods approaches, including rapid evidence reviews, qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis, and synthesis of findings into clear, actionable insights.

Collaborate with academic, clinical, and stakeholder partners (including patients and carers) to design, deliver, and manage applied population health projects
Work with the lead researcher to deliver rapid, mixed-methods evaluations using primary and secondary care data (e.g. interviews, focus groups, surveys, and large dataset analysis)
Coordinate evaluation approaches across PHH and clinical teams, working closely with analysts
Communicate insights through reports, publications, presentations, and policy briefings
Oversee and deliver robust evaluation frameworks, including qualitative and quantitative data collection, analysis, and interpretation
Manage and coordinate PHH research and evaluation programmes, including planning milestones and ensuring delivery
Maintain high standards of research governance, ethics, data protection, and confidentiality.
Develop, manage, and maintain evaluation databases and records
Build strong internal and external collaborations to strengthen applied population health research
Contribute to team development, including supporting junior staff and multidisciplinary working
Lead study set-up, documentation, and submissions to relevant research bodies
Stay up to date with scientific and professional developments, contributing to innovation and continuous improvement
Support dissemination to academic and non-academic audiences, translating complex findings into accessible outputs

This role sits within the Population Health Hub (PHH), part of the Office of the Chief Strategy and Transformation Officer. The PHH is central to delivering GSTT’s 2030 population health ambitions, bringing together clinical, analytical and improvement expertise to embed preventative, equitable approaches to care.
Working collaboratively across clinical groups and system partners, the Hub designs and delivers insight-led service redesign, targeting unmet need and reducing inequalities in access, experience and outcomes.
Collaborating with academic colleagues, clinical colleagues, King’s Health Partners, commissioners, and other stakeholders, including patients and carers, to develop, design and manage the day-to-day implementation of projects within the team
Working with the lead researcher to design and carry out rapid evaluation and dissemination cycles using both primary and secondary care data. Work will include undertaking in-depth interviews, focus group discussions, reflection workshops, implementing short quantitative surveys and providing support for analysing large datasets
Working with population health data analysts and lead on a coordinated approach to evaluation across the clinical and PHH teams
Assist in developing and applying for appropriate external research grants and other funding
To communicate findings, ideas and results to the wider population health field
To work as part of the PHH team, providing evaluation support whenever necessary
To be a key figure in the development of future research and evaluation projects
To strengthen research collaborations between the PHH team and other departments interested in applied population health research
Key Responsibilities
To oversee the research and evaluation of projects delivered by the PHH programme, which include the core components as well as projects that develop and expand the core model
Develop a service evaluation framework and then undertake the qualitative and quantitative evaluations required to deliver it
To work as part of the PHH team, developing good working relationships within the team and with stakeholders
To maintain the highest standards of research and evaluation practice and governance
To collect and analyse data
To maintain appropriate databases, keeping accurate written and computerised records and to ensure that these records are stored in a secure place, and to maintain confidentiality of all electronically stored personal data in line with the provisions of the Data Protection Act
To attend and participate in the PHH academic activities, e.g. team meetings, seminars, conferences
To make research initiatives and original contributions to the PH programme wherever possible, and to contribute freely to the team’s research and evaluation environment in a manner conducive to the success of the project as a whole
To keep up to date with scientific, clinical and professional issues, in particular developments in the specific subject area
To take a lead role in managing and coordinating the PHH service evaluations and support aligned studies
To take a lead role in preparing any study documentation for submission to the relevant research bodies
To assist with setting up studies and providing ongoing support to ensure smooth implementation of the evaluation as required
To construct an evaluation database, with the team’s analyst, and maintain the collection and storage of data and to assist in this aspect and in the interpretation of results
To be a key member of a multidisciplinary team involved in evaluating projects delivered by the PHH programme
To maintain strong collaborations within the Trust, but also with other teams delivering applied population health research
Research and Evaluation Responsibilities
Develop, lead and conduct designated research and evaluation projects in collaboration with members of the relevant clinical teams and/or Group, Department, Division or the School within the University. To be responsible for co-ordinating and implementing research and evaluation projects
Act as a co researcher and main point of contact as required
Support in the development of more junior members of the team
Research initiatives and original contributions to the research programme wherever possible, and to contribute freely to the team’s research environment in a manner conducive to the success of the research project as a whole
Assisting with preparing and editing accessible, plain language briefings aimed at policymakers, healthcare providers and other non-academic stakeholders
Preparing findings for dissemination in high impact academic publications, conferences and other forms of dissemination that lead to impact, as appropriate
Attend and participate in the PHH research activities and other meetings as appropriate
Keep up to date with scientific, clinical and professional issues, in particular developments in the specific subject area and disseminate this information to the PHH team
Communicate complex statistical findings to researchers and teams of other professionals both internally and externally by giving presentations or producing reports to large audiences
Engender good lines of communication with all colleagues
Understand, analyse and interpret the findings of often complex statistical outcomes and be able to resolve team queries regarding the data
Be proficient in using statistical software packages to their full potential including producing reports
Be proficient in analysing a range of issues or interactions and producing workable outcomes
Maintain careful permanent records of all experimental work
Undertake literature searches to explore potential research projects, and to be able to interpret and present the findings of the literature searches and advise the research teams appropriately regarding potential projects
Professional and Policy Responsibilities
Ensure that any research and evaluation undertaken complies with ethics regulations and apply for ethics approval as required
Ensure appropriate confidentiality of records and information (written and verbal)
Responsible for developing and implementation of internal PHH polices and the co-development of polices related to the work of the PHH for the Trust
Management and Information Responsibilities

Plan the research and evaluation milestones for the PHH programme and aligned projects. Will be responsible for co-ordinating the research and evaluation activity and ensuring plans are readjusted according to the direction of the activity and that plans are met
Contribute to the development and implementation of local policies
Provide advice to others on the outcomes of the research and evaluation programme
Manage office research and evaluation records to ensure effective and efficient information management, of data, including filing (paper and electronic) and records
Provide documentation and produce complex reports as required
