Sales Development Representative
Salary: £40,000 – £50,000 OTE
About us
We're HardHats, and we're all about simplifying life for construction companies.
You know how construction work can be a bit of a rollercoaster? Well, that's where we step in. We're the industry's exclusive provider of a self-employed subcontractor guarantee built specifically for construction firms. We help companies sort out the whole employment status thing, so they can get on with what they're good at without worrying about the taxman breathing down their necks.
Most of the market is payroll and umbrella companies selling contractors a sense of protection they haven't actually got. We tell them the truth instead.
Why join us?
Because it's a much easier phone call to make when the thing you're ringing about is real.
You'll be talking to construction business owners who've been fed a load of nonsense for years, usually by someone in a suit who was on commission. Your job is to cut through that and get them in front of our sales team. It's honest work, and there's a proper story behind it.
We'll also be straight with you about the role itself. This is a phone job. You'll be making a lot of outbound calls, every day, and you'll be measured on it. If you're after a "Business Development" title that turns out to mean answering the odd inbound enquiry, this isn't the one.
We're based at Port Solent, just off the M27, with free parking on site.
The Job
You'll be the first voice a prospect hears. Ringing busy construction business owners from an agreed target list, getting past the noise, and booking meetings for our sales team with the person who can actually sign something.
Your Mission
- Proactively contact prospect construction companies by phone.
- Follow up properly on email and LinkedIn.
- Book qualified meetings with genuine decision-makers.
- Research prospects before you dial, so it sounds like a conversation rather than a script.
- Execute the daily tasks set out in our CRM, and keep your records straight as you go.
- Hit weekly and monthly KPIs.
- Work closely with the Head of Sales, who you'll report to, on call reviews and coaching.
What You Bring to the Table
- Outbound experience. This one isn't negotiable.
- You're competitive and you've got the numbers to back it up, because we'd rather see a track record than hear about the mindset.
- Resilience, because you'll be told no more often than yes, and it can't put you off your next dial.
- You take coaching well, because the people who get good at this fastest are the ones who listen back to their own calls without getting the hump.
- Straight talking, because our clients are builders and they can hear a script coming.
- Tech-savvy and organised/
- Evidence of competitive drive somewhere outside work is a good sign. Sport, a side hustle, whatever it is.
Perks & Benefits
- £40,000 – £50,000 OTE.
- 32 days holiday, including bank holidays and the three days between Christmas and New Year.
- Your birthday off on top of that.
- WPA health cover.
- Pension.
- Free parking.
- Monday to Friday, 9 to 5, in the office at Port Solent. Five days a week for this role, because you'll get good at it a lot faster sitting near people who already are.
Sound like you?
