Summary
This is a dual role, split equally between delivering Solar PV training courses in Carbon3’s new training centre (50%) and supporting the Installation Compliance Manager in ensuring renewable energy installations (Solar PV, Battery Storage, EV Chargers, Heat Pumps) are delivered to the highest technical and quality standards (50%). This role is critical in developing the skills of learners and installers, while maintaining compliance, reducing defects, and improving installation performance across the business.
A strong electrical background, previous Solar PV experience, and confidence delivering training to groups are essential. The successful candidate will work closely with Contracts Managers, engineers, office teams, and learners to drive continuous improvement both on-site and in the training centre.
This is an office, site, and training centre based role.
Key Responsibilities
Training & Course Delivery (50%)
- Deliver Solar PV training courses to learners in Carbon3’s new training centre, covering both theory and practical installation skills
- Prepare course materials, lesson plans, and assessment criteria in line with awarding body requirements
- Assess learner competence through practical demonstrations, written assessments, and site simulations
- Maintain accurate learner records, attendance registers, and achievement data
- Ensure training centre equipment, tools, and facilities are maintained to a safe, working standard
- Keep course content up to date with MCS, BS 7671, and wider Solar PV industry standards
- Support promotion of courses, including open days and taster sessions, where required
Installation Supervision & Compliance (50%)
Installation Quality Assurance
- Review completed job packs daily to ensure compliance with design, standards, and company procedures
- Identify and log defects using the company defect tracking system
- Categorize defects (low / medium / high severity)
- Ensure photographic and documentation evidence meets required standards
Defect Management & Reporting
- Maintain and update the defect tracker
- Highlight recurring issues and trends
- Support root cause analysis of defects
- Assist in implementing corrective actions
Technical Compliance Checks
- Verify installations comply with BS 7671, MCS requirements, and EV Code of Practice
- Check system design vs installation alignment
- Ensure commissioning data is accurate and complete
Engineer & Contracts Manager Support
- Provide feedback to engineers on installation quality
- Support Contracts Managers with compliance queries
- Assist in resolving technical issues
Site Audits & Inspections
- Carry out site visits to audit installations, must also be willing to show the engineers how it is done themselves for training purposes where necessary.
- Produce structured inspection reports
- Identify areas for improvement on-site
On-the-Job Coaching & Continuous Improvement
- Deliver informal toolbox talks and on-site coaching to engineers
- Support development of best practice documentation
- Help improve internal processes and standards
Documentation & Record Keeping
- Ensure all project documentation is complete and stored correctly
- Maintain compliance records for audits
- Support preparation for external audits

About You
Essential Requirements
- Fully qualified electrician (NVQ Level 3 or equivalent) – Essential
- Proven experience in Solar PV installations - Essential)
- Good understanding of BS 7671 and MCS standards
- Experience in renewable energy systems (Solar PV, Battery Storage, EV Charging systems)
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and compliance
- Ability to identify defects and drive corrective actions
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to work across multiple teams
- Willingness to attend both office and site locations as required
- Experience in carrying out inspections, audits, or quality checks (desirable)
- Confident delivering training and presenting technical content to groups (essential)
- Teaching or training qualification such as Award in Education and Training (AET) or A1 Assessor Award (desirable, or willingness to work towards)
- Experience mentoring, coaching, or training apprentices or engineers (desirable)
