We are currently seeking a dedicated Pupil Support Assistant to join a 2:1 collaborative team, supporting a primary-aged learner in community settings in the Chesterton area of Cambridge (CB4). Working alongside a Specialist Tutor, you'll play an equally important role in helping create the consistency, predictability and emotional safety that allows learning to happen.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who excels at building relationships and understands that lasting progress begins with trust, curiosity and consistency. You will be supporting a highly active young person who thrives on hands-on, practical learning but who currently finds formal, adult-directed tasks overwhelming. Because this learner experiences sensory processing differences and benefits from calm, predictable environments, your role will be to help them transition away from previous educational barriers and rebuild their confidence in a highly flexible setting.
This placement would particularly suit someone who enjoys taking learning beyond the classroom, using practical activities, problem-solving, outdoor learning and real-world experiences to engage children.

Duties
- Work collaboratively as part of a 2:1 team, taking guidance from a Lead Specialist Tutor to deliver a consistent, warm, and predictable approach.
- Help create a safe, nurturing learning environment that accommodates the learner's specific sensory preferences and need for routine.
- Provide empathetic emotional support, recognising when the young person is feeling frustrated or overwhelmed and gently guiding them toward safe regulation spaces.
- Support active, practical learning and regular movement breaks that help maintain engagement and emotional regulation.
- Engage in reflective practice, actively participating in supervision and sharing observations to help the team continuously improve the provision.
Experience
- You do not need formal teaching qualifications. We highly value transferable experience from backgrounds such as youth work, residential care, healthcare, or community support.
- A calm, grounded, and professional approach, with the emotional resilience to support a young person who is learning to regulate their feelings.
- High adaptability and the ability to work collaboratively alongside a lead practitioner.
- Strong relationship-building skills and the ability to look past challenging moments to see the capable, creative learner underneath.
- A commitment to safeguarding, professional boundaries, and continuous personal development.
Pay: £18.50-£21.00 per hour
