Most structural waterproofing in the UK is designed either by the companies selling the membrane, or by consultants who pass design responsibility back to the architect. EPG designs waterproofing independently, takes design responsibility for the work it produces, and backs that responsibility with professional indemnity insurance. In ten years of practice, the team has had no claims or notifications against that work.
Scope
This role starts with developing the technical judgement needed to make design decisions on work insured by the company. As your competence and confidence grow, there is a genuine opportunity for the right person to progress into project management, taking ownership of projects from appointment through to delivery, managing programmes and fees, coordinating the design team, and becoming the principal point of contact for clients. Training and support will be provided throughout, with responsibility increasing as you demonstrate the technical, organisational, and communication skills needed to lead projects independently.
The role
We are recruiting two people into the structural waterproofing team, working alongside the Structural Waterproofing Manager and the wider group of designers.
You will produce waterproofing designs for basements, podiums, tunnels, and other below-ground structures, including projects such as Battersea Power Station, Stockport Interchange, and the Ellison Institute of Transformative Medicine.
What you'll be doing
- Producing technical drawings and waterproofing details in AutoCAD
- Developing waterproofing solutions for new build and refurbishment schemes
- Working to BS 8102, with an understanding of the reasoning behind its requirements
- Managing project information through Common Data Environments
- Liaising with architects, engineers, contractors, and manufacturers
- Reviewing incoming design information and identifying errors or gaps
- Conducting diagnostic surveys of existing structures where failures have occurred
What we need from you
- Solid AutoCAD ability
- Experience using Revit and BIM workflows
- Strong technical drawing and detailing skills
- Good understanding of UK construction methods and detailing
- Strong communication and organisational skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines concurrently
- A disciplined approach to checking your own work, and to having it checked by others
- The ability to explain technical decisions clearly to non-specialist audiences
Useful, but not required (training provided)
- Knowledge of Building Regulations and construction standards
- Background in structural, architectural, or waterproofing work
- CSSW qualification, or willingness to work towards it
