Job Title: Senior/Principal Test & Development Engineer

Job Purpose:
Senior Test and Development Engineer with extensive experience in powertrain and transmission development, validation and testing. Expert in powertrain test cells, driveline development, instrumentation, data acquisition and test automation. Proven track record of architecting and programming test rig control software, developing bespoke test facilities and leading performance, efficiency, durability and NVH development programmes. Skilled in Creo CAD, LabVIEW, MATLAB, CAN systems, strain gauging and high-voltage powertrain testing, with strong technical leadership and project delivery capabilities.
Core Requirements:
o Degree qualified or relevant industrial experience.
o > 7 years' experience at a senior level in the automotive sector is required developing electrified powertrain and components.
o Background in automotive development environment.
o Knowledge and understanding of driveline attribute engineering and target setting.
o Expert knowledge of Instrumentation, sensors, data acquisition equipment and powertrain test cells. Working knowledge of automotive calibration & data acquisition tools.
o Experience assembling and aligning transmission system on to a 3E test rig.
o Strong communication, information transfer and inter-personal skills with practical, pro-active hands-on approach.
o Capable of working efficiently as a team leader to tight deadlines.
o Excellent IT, Verbal and Written communication skills
o Driving license
o Experience with CAN, instrumentation and data collection, strain gauging, LabVIEW, CAD (Creo), Glyphworks or MATLAB
o Architected and programmed the primary test rig control application, to develop new functionality.
o Competent CAD user with experience of designing rotating system to support test rig tooling development.
o Logical and structured thought process with an ability to define and manage project actions
o Good problem-solving skills
o Ability to present & discuss technical information in a clear and concise manner.
o Knowledge of transmission integration into vehicles.
o Detailed knowledge of Transmission design, development, validation and test processes.
o Ability to self-teach and instruct others
o Experience and accreditation to work with High voltage systems.
Main Activities/tasks:
o Lead test & development work on electrified powertrain systems and mechanical systems on driveline test beds.
o Lead test & development of function, performance, efficiency & NVH, based on project scope, to include:
- Design, plan and organise test and development programmes on powertrain rig or dyno
- Complete driveline development programs
- Develop and setup test facilities to suit electrified powertrain development needs
- Obtain and analyse data, ensuring data quality
- Feedback results & prepare test reports
- Liaise with external test houses for delivery of tests, including reporting and maintaining to agreed schedules.
o Operation of test rig front end control systems such as Sierra CP Cadet system and AVL PUMA systems or other powertrain rigs (3E).
o Develop working practices in the department including training of other new staff members
o Work collaboratively with the Design Office and key external suppliers to establish driveline targets for new projects and to help to establish and optimise designs.
o Develop test rig concepts and layouts in Creo 3D
o Work collaboratively to ensure the hardware attains its’ proper function
o Provide research & investigative support for the Technology Roadmap
