About the Role
Modern applications rarely belong entirely to the front end or back end. The best digital products depend on both working together: interfaces need to feel responsive, APIs need to be reliable, databases need to remain organised, and new features must integrate without destabilising everything already in production.
As a Full Stack Software Developer, you will build and maintain web applications across both client-side and server-side systems. You will work on new functionality, improve existing applications, integrate APIs, troubleshoot production issues, and collaborate with designers and technical colleagues throughout the development lifecycle.
The role offers variety across the stack. One day may involve creating a new React interface and connecting it to an API, while another could focus on improving database queries, investigating an application error, or preparing a new feature for deployment.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain responsive web applications.
- Build reusable front-end components and application interfaces.
- Develop server-side services and application logic.
- Design and maintain REST APIs and system integrations.
- Work with relational and non-relational databases.
- Write clear, maintainable, and well-structured code.
- Review existing applications and identify opportunities to improve performance and reliability.
- Diagnose application defects and implement appropriate fixes.
- Participate in code reviews and technical discussions.
- Work with designers to translate layouts and user journeys into functional applications.
- Integrate third-party APIs and external platforms.
- Maintain appropriate authentication and user-access controls.
- Write automated tests for critical application functionality.
- Support application deployments and release activities.
- Monitor production issues and assist with incident resolution.
- Maintain technical documentation for applications and integrations.
- Use Git and established source-control workflows.
- Support CI/CD processes and deployment automation.
- Contribute to architectural decisions for new application features.
- Improve existing development processes where recurring inefficiencies are identified.
What We Are Looking For
- Previous commercial experience in software development, web development, or application engineering.
- Strong JavaScript or TypeScript skills.
- Experience with React, Vue, Angular, or another modern front-end framework.
- Experience developing back-end applications using Node.js, Python, .NET, Java, or similar technologies.
- Good understanding of REST APIs and web-service integration.
- Experience working with SQL databases such as PostgreSQL, SQL Server, or MySQL.
- Familiarity with Git and collaborative development workflows.
- Understanding of application security and secure coding principles.
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud would be advantageous.
- Familiarity with Docker, CI/CD, or automated deployment processes is beneficial.
- Strong debugging and problem-solving skills.
- Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience would be advantageous.

Working Approach
You are comfortable moving between user-facing features and the systems behind them. When something fails, you trace the problem through the application rather than assuming it belongs to another part of the stack. You care about readable code, reliable releases, and building features that remain maintainable after they go live.
