Job Summary
We are seeking a proactive and dedicated School Caretaker to ensure the safety, security, and maintenance of our school premises. In this vital role, you will be responsible for upkeeping the physical environment, managing security protocols, and supporting the smooth daily operation of the school. Your enthusiasm and attention to detail will help create a welcoming and safe environment where students and staff can thrive. This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute directly to the wellbeing of our school community. Split shift 7am to 9am and 4.30-6.30pm, to be discussed.
Responsibilities
- Maintain the cleanliness and tidiness of all school areas, including classrooms, corridors, toilets, and outdoor spaces. Seasonal - Gritting, Weeding and jet washing.
- Conduct regular safety inspections of the premises, including checking fire alarms, emergency exits, and security systems
- Manage access control by supervising entry points for staff, students, visitors, and contractors
- Carry out minor repairs and coordinate with external contractors for larger maintenance tasks
- Ensure that all health and safety procedures are followed consistently across the site
- Monitor security cameras and alarm systems to prevent unauthorized access or vandalism
- Support set-up and breakdown for school events and activities as needed
Qualifications
- Previous experience in caretaking, facilities management, or a similar role is preferred but not essential
- Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational skills
- Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods
- Good communication skills to liaise effectively with staff and external contractors
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations relevant to school environments
- Reliable with a positive attitude and a proactive approach to problem-solving
