The role
We're looking for an Assistant Manager to take day-to-day responsibility for the running of the shop. This is a senior position with real autonomy — you will lead the team, manage the operation and be accountable for how the business performs, working directly with the owner.
Key responsibilities
- Managing daily operations, including opening and closing procedures, cash handling and banking
- Building and managing the staff rota to an agreed labour budget
- Leading, training and developing a team of baristas and kitchen staff
- Stock control, ordering, supplier management and waste reduction

- Ensuring full compliance with food safety and health and safety legislation, including record keeping and EHO readiness
- Recruiting and onboarding part-time team members
- Handling customer feedback and resolving complaints
- Reviewing weekly and monthly performance data with the owner, including revenue, labour and margin
Requirements
- Demonstrable experience leading a team in a hospitality environment
- Experience running shifts and maintaining service standards
- Confident on espresso, with a genuine interest in speciality coffee
- Comfortable working with commercial data — gross profit, labour percentages, stock control
- Strong interpersonal skills, with a calm and patient management style
- Level 2 Food Safety certification (or willingness to obtain — we will fund this)
- Right to work in the UK
Desirable
- Previous experience as an assistant manager or general manager
- Barista training or coffee qualifications
- Experience with EPOS systems and stock management software
