What is this role?
We are looking to employ an experienced Support Engineer to join our Vial Production department.
In this role, you will provide technical and engineering support, focusing on equipment reliability, process optimisation, and troubleshooting to enable efficient production, while driving a culture of continuous improvement. Our equipment ranges from simple mechanical machines to fully automated, in-house designed systems.
You will also play a key part in NPI and design-related engineering activities, partnering with senior engineers on product testing and development, as well as supporting production technicians through technical training and mentoring.
Responsibilities include:
- Drive continuous improvement to production methods, equipment, fixtures and jigs to improve efficiency, quality and performance
- Manage the equipment database; perform or delegate required service, maintenance and calibration tasks, keeping accurate records
- Raise and manage ECN's (Engineering Change Notes) and NCR's (Non-conformance Reports) through to completion
- Investigate and resolve problems on faulty products, and carry out Quality Investigations to deepen understanding of our products and processes
- Create and edit Works Instructions
- Support NPI (New Product Introduction) with testing of prototypes and creating documentation
- Be the first point of call for machine repairs, diagnosing breakdowns and building a knowledge base of routine fixes
- Proactively identify and address recurring issues to prevent machine breakdowns
- Manage inventory of spare components
- Take part in and contribute to design review meetings
- Support modifications and updates to existing products
- Undertake detailed product testing and create Inspection Reports
- Mechanical design of fixtures and jigs to support production and test requirements
- Aid the training of production technicians on production tasks, equipment, and company systems

Qualifications and skills required:
- Practical experience of machine/equipment maintenance and repair (essential)
- Experience in a manufacturing or production environment (essential)
- Understanding of mechanical/electrical engineering principles (essential)
- Excellent computer skills (essential)
- Experience of preventative maintenance planning (desirable)
- Higher-level relevant qualification (degree or HND or equivalent) (desirable)
- Experience of statistical analysis or data interpretation (desirable)
- Experience with root cause analysis / problem-solving methodologies / quality systems (desirable)
- Experience of 3D CAD (desirable)
