Due to continued growth, we are looking to appoint an experienced Commercial Gas Operations Manager to lead our commercial gas division from our South London office. This is a key leadership role responsible for managing engineers, ensuring operational efficiency, maintaining excellent customer relationships and driving business performance.
The Role
Reporting directly to the Directors, you will oversee the day-to-day operations of the commercial gas & HIU department, ensuring all service, maintenance and reactive works are delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest standard.
You will be responsible for managing engineers, coordinating workloads, supporting key clients and ensuring compliance across all aspects of the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the Commercial Gas & HIU department.
- Lead, mentor and support a team of Commercial Gas Engineers and Supervisors.
- Plan and allocate engineer workloads to maximise efficiency and service delivery.
- Ensure planned preventative maintenance and reactive works are completed within agreed service level agreements.
- Monitor engineer productivity, utilisation and performance.
- Conduct regular engineer reviews, toolbox talks and performance meetings.
- Recruit, onboard and develop engineering staff as the business grows.
- Provide technical support to engineers and assist with complex fault diagnosis where required.
- Maintain strong relationships with key clients and attend review meetings.
- Ensure all works are completed in line with current Gas Safe regulations and health & safety legislation.
- Review and approve quotations, remedial works and project variations.
- Monitor department KPIs, service performance and financial targets.
- Work closely with the Service Desk, Projects Team and Directors to ensure smooth operational delivery.
- Oversee compliance documentation including certifications, risk assessments and audit requirements.
- Drive continuous improvement across systems, processes and customer service.
- Participate in the management on-call rota when required.
Essential Requirements
- Previous experience managing Commercial Gas and/or HIU Engineers
- Strong technical background in commercial gas and heating systems.
- Current or previously held Commercial Gas qualifications.
- Excellent leadership and people management skills.
- Strong organisational and planning abilities.
- Experience managing operational performance and service delivery.
- Commercial awareness with experience managing budgets and profitability.
- Excellent customer service and client relationship management skills.
- Good knowledge of health & safety legislation and industry compliance.
- Strong IT skills including Microsoft Office and job management systems.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
Desirable
- Experience working within Facilities Management or Building Services.
- IOSH or NEBOSH qualification.
- Experience managing large-scale maintenance contracts.
- Knowledge of HVAC or wider mechanical building services.
- Experience implementing operational improvements and business growth strategies.
