Help us support great carers and deliver excellent care
First4Homecare is looking for a caring, organised and confident Field Care Support Officer / Care Assessor to join our domiciliary care team.
This is a varied, hands-on role combining approximately 20–25 office-based hours each week with work in the community. Your remaining hours will include client assessments and reviews, care-worker supervisions, competency observations, quality checks and planned care calls.
The role is ideal for an experienced Care Assistant, Senior Care Assistant or similar care professional who would like to take the next step in their career.
You do not need to be an experienced manager. We are looking for someone with good care experience, sound judgement, strong IT skills and the potential to learn and develop with the business.
What you will do
You will work closely with the Care Coordinator and management team to support care staff and help maintain safe, responsive and person-centred care.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Completing initial client assessments and reassessments.
- Undertaking scheduled client reviews in their homes.
- Identifying and reporting changes in clients’ needs, risks or circumstances.
- Supporting the preparation and updating of care plans and risk assessments.
- Completing care-worker supervisions, spot checks and competency observations.
- Assessing practical competencies, including medication and moving and handling, once appropriately trained and authorised.
- Providing carers with practical guidance, coaching and supportive feedback.
- Helping new carers settle into their roles through introductions, observations and field support.
- Monitoring care delivery and checking that care records are accurate and complete.
- Supporting the Care Coordinator with information from the field and following up agreed actions.
- Communicating professionally with clients, relatives, carers and healthcare professionals.
- Undertaking planned care calls as part of your normal working week.
- Reporting safeguarding, medication, quality or service concerns promptly to the appropriate manager.
- Maintaining accurate records using Microsoft 365 and the Company’s digital care and rostering systems.
- Participating in training, team meetings, supervision and service-improvement activities.
What the role does NOT involve
This is a supportive field and assessment role. It is NOT a Deputy Manager position.
You will not normally be responsible for:
- Leading safeguarding investigations.
- Conducting formal disciplinary or capability proceedings.
- Managing the care rota.
- Owning or being primarily responsible for capacity tracking.
- Making decisions outside your level of authority.
You will be expected to recognise concerns, record the relevant facts and escalate them promptly to the Care Coordinator, Deputy Manager or Registered Manager.
About you
You will be someone who enjoys supporting both clients and care staff and is comfortable dividing your time between office work, field visits and care delivery.
