About Set AP
Set AP provides a nurturing, trauma-informed alternative education for young people who require a different approach to learning. We believe that positive relationships, high expectations and individualised support enable every young person to thrive both academically and personally.
Working with very small groups (typically 3–4 pupils), we create personalised learning programmes that combine core academic skills with creativity, practical learning and emotional development.
Purpose of the Role
The Core Curriculum Teacher will deliver engaging and highly personalised learning programmes that enable pupils to make excellent academic and personal progress.
The successful candidate will teach Functional Skills English and Maths, GCSE preparation where appropriate, and develop creative project-based learning that motivates pupils and builds confidence, resilience and independence.
This role requires an exceptional teacher who understands the barriers many young people face and can combine high expectations with warmth, consistency and strong relationships.
Key ResponsibilitiesTeaching and Learning
- Deliver Functional Skills English and Mathematics.
- Teach GCSE content where appropriate.
- Plan engaging cross-curricular learning.
- Deliver creative, arts-based and project-based learning experiences.
- Differentiate learning for pupils with SEND, SEMH and additional needs.
- Use assessment to inform personalised learning plans.
- Track progress and celebrate achievement.
Behaviour and Relationships
- Develop positive, trusting relationships with pupils.
- Create calm, structured learning environments.
- Implement trauma-informed approaches.
- Support emotional regulation.
- Use restorative approaches to repair relationships.
- Maintain consistently high expectations.

Working with Families
- Build positive relationships with parents and carers.
- Attend review meetings.
- Produce clear written reports.
- Work collaboratively with professionals including social workers, educational psychologists and local authorities.
Professional Responsibilities
- Plan and prepare engaging lessons.
- Assess and record pupil progress.
- Attend staff meetings and training.
- Maintain accurate records.
- Contribute to school improvement.
- Engage in continuous professional development.
Planning and administration time is built into the school day after pupils leave.
