General Radiographer

We are seeking experienced Radiographers, with minimum of 1 year post qualification experience, to join our team at Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust, primarily based on the Queen Elizabeth site.
Applicants should be/have:

Radiographers will be expected to rotate through all general areas including the Emergency Department, CT scan, Fluoroscopy and all the plain film imaging modalities and you will be expected to undertake overnight duties including undertaking CT Trauma scans and general cover on a 7-day working basis.
The successful candidate will be required to support the area leads with delivery of an efficient and effective service within the current challenging healthcare environment. If you feel you have the necessary experience and aptitude to fulfil this role, we would be pleased to hear from you.

This role will give the individual the opportunity to build on and extend their clinical expertise in Radiography and also develop training and leadership skills. Education and training are key elements of the department and therefore role extension and further learning is encouraged. Flexibility and innovation are also fundamental to this role and strong communication skills are essential.
Participation in the departmental 7 day working week is essential.

The Diagnostic Imaging department based across 2 sites, Lewisham and Queen Elizabeth with all General rooms equipped with DR, 4 GE CT scanners Revolutions

Role To be responsible for carrying out radiographic imaging to a high standard and in a professional manner, working to departmental guidelines whilst being accountable for own actions.
The post holder will be required to carry out radiographic duties in all areas including theatres, A&E both adults and paediatrics, on wards especially those with high dependency patients and the critically ill.

Clinical
To independently undertake diagnostic radiology procedures maintaining high professional standards of technical competence and ensuring standards of essence of care at all times.
To assess and adapt techniques and protocols following assessment for each procedure.
To take responsibility for the care of the patient whilst undertaking the procedure. This includes manual handling.
Offer an opinion on images obtained to relevant medical personnel
To supervise and provide clinical assistance to assistant practitioners
To provide team leadership where required.
Provide clinical support for other radiographers where needed.
To ensure the protection and safety of all patients and staff against the dangers of radiation.
To monitor and evaluate Ionising Radiation Regulations 99 and IR(ME)R 2000 and ensure patients procedures are performed with due consideration of these regulations.
To comply with Health & Safety and COSHH regulations.
To ensure patient confidentiality is observed at all times and observe the requirements of the data protection act and freedom of information act.
To participate in the department’s out of hours on-call rota.
To observe all local rules and the Trust’s employment policies and procedures.
To undertake regular QA tests to identify and report equipment faults or inaccuracies
Ensure the safe use of specialist radiology equipment. To report equipment failures immediately.
Training
To participate in the induction and training of new staff, assistant practitioners and student radiographers.
- To attend compulsory staff training courses
To provide assistance and be involved in departmental projects and audits
To be actively involved in departmental quality groups and pro-active in the sharing of good practice.
To take every opportunity to gain knowledge to achieve competency in an area of speciality within the Radiology department.
To have a basic knowledge of CT
Communication.
To offer advice and guidance to patients, carers and other health professionals on radiology procedures and radiation issues taking due consideration of patients conditions.
To inform and promote Radiology guidelines and departmental policies to other healthcare professionals
To obtain informed consent from patients prior to undertaking procedures as appropriate to individual circumstances
To ensure accurate recording on the Radiology Information System patient information and examination details including confirmation of examination and consumables used and dose received by patient.
To promote good relations with other directorates and hospitals
To attend any meetings as required by the Head of Imaging or Radiology Services Manager.
Personal Development
To attend any relevant study days, in-house lectures, training afternoons and quality group meetings.
Participate in departmental audit.
To take part in the department’s personal appraisal scheme and CPD.
To undertake any other duties appropriate to the post when requested by the Head of Imaging or Radiology Service Manager.
