Purpose of the role:
To provide FP&A support to the Waste & FM services, leading on budgeting, forecasting, management reporting and business partnering, underpinned by strong financial modelling capability. The role designs, builds and maintains robust financial models, translating complex data into clear, actionable information, and works closely with budget holders and senior stakeholders to drive planning, performance monitoring and commercial decision making across the business.
Key Responsibilities:

Lead and coordinate the annual budgeting process and periodic reforecasts for the Waste & FM services, working with budget holders to build robust, assumption-led plans.
- Review monthly management reporting, including variance analysis of actuals against budget and forecast, explaining drivers and recommending corrective action.
- Act as a business partner to operational and commercial teams, providing financial challenge and support to budget holders throughout the planning and reporting cycle.
- Translate complex data into clear and meaningful insights for non technical stakeholders, highlighting key drivers, risks and recommendations.
- Ensure strong model governance including documentation, quality checks, audit trails and version control.
- Collaborate cross functionally with Finance, Data & Reporting, Operations and Bristol City Council to gather assumptions, validate inputs and align outputs with business needs.
- Monitor performance by reviewing actuals against forecasts, refining assumptions and updating models to reflect changing business conditions.
- Produce a range of modelling outputs including valuation models, sensitivity and scenario analyses, business cases, KPI dashboards and investment appraisals.
- Support decision making by providing high quality analytical insight that strengthens commercial understanding and enables strategic growth.

Experience

Proven experience designing financial models for forecasting, scenario analysis or investment evaluation.
- Experience within an FP&A role, including budgeting, reforecasting and month-end management reporting.
- Experience presenting insights and recommendations to non technical audiences.
- Experience implementing controls, documentation and quality checks within modelling processes.
Sector knowledge of waste, local government or utilities is desirable.
