Bailey Oster, an established accountancy practice based in the Stockport area, is looking for an experienced, reliable PA and administrator to work directly alongside the principal, acting as their right hand and supporting the day-to-day running of the practice. This is a genuinely flexible, part-time role built around school hours and worked almost entirely from home — ideal for someone with solid office experience who wants real responsibility and variety without a full-time commitment or a commute.
The Role
You will work closely with the principal as a trusted right hand across the practice, taking genuine ownership of a defined set of responsibilities rather than sitting in a back-office data-entry seat. Day to day, the role includes:
- Coordinating our Making Tax Digital (MTD) process for a growing base of clients — preparing and issuing client communications, tracking responses, and helping keep quarterly submissions on schedule. Full training is provided; this is process-driven work, so accuracy and follow-through matter more than prior tax knowledge.
- General practice administration — data input, document filing and organisation, and maintaining accurate client records.
- Handling incoming calls and client queries, making sure nothing slips through the cracks.
- Supporting the principal directly with whatever the week needs, working closely together over Microsoft Teams.
About You
We are looking for someone who:
- Has solid experience in a professional office environment and is comfortable being trusted to work independently from home.
- Is highly organised, accurate and conscientious — the kind of person who closes loops and finishes what they start without needing to be chased.
- Is confident with computers, Microsoft Office and quick to pick up new software and systems, and happy to follow a defined process precisely while flagging anything that does not look right.
- Has a warm, professional telephone manner and good written English.
- Is discreet and trustworthy with confidential client information.
Experience in an accountancy practice or bookkeeping is welcome but not essential — we will train you on everything specific to the role. What matters most is reliability, attention to detail, and the ability to take ownership.
Hours, Pay and Location
- 20 hours per week, worked around school hours (approximately 9:30am to 3:30pm), spread over four or five days, with some flexibility on the exact pattern.
- £17 per hour, reviewed annually.
- This is a home-based role and you will work from home almost all of the time. The main exception is your initial training, and beyond that only the occasional face-to-face catch-up or local task. Because of those rare occasions we are looking for someone based in Greater Manchester, within reasonable travelling distance of Stockport.
- Company pension.
