Job Purpose
To maintain an exceptionally high standard of cleanliness, hygiene, and presentation throughout Shamrock House. Your role is vital in creating a safe environment that supports the well-being and dignity of our vulnerable residents.
Key Responsibilities- Bedroom Maintenance & Personal Space Organisation
- Deep Cleaning: Systematically deep clean resident bedrooms on a scheduled rotation, including dusting, vacuuming, wiping down skirting boards, and sanitising high-touch surfaces.
- Bedding & Laundry: Strip, wash, and change bed linens and towels regularly, or as requested based on individual resident care plans.
- Wardrobe Organisation: Respectfully assist with or manage the organisation of residents' wardrobes and drawers to ensure clothing is neatly stored, accessible, and well-kept.
2. Communal Areas & Bathrooms
- Communal Spaces: Maintain the cleanliness of shared lounges, dining rooms, hallways, and staff areas to ensure a welcoming and clutter-free environment.
- Sanitation of Bathrooms: Deep clean and disinfect communal and en-suite bathrooms, toilets, showers, and hand basins daily to prevent infection.
- Waste Management: Empty waste bins daily and dispose of refuse safely in line with infection control procedures.
3. Stock Control & Auditing
- Inventory Management: Regularly audit cleaning supplies, personal protective equipment (PPE), toiletries, and laundry detergents.
- Safe Storage: Ensure all chemical cleaning products are safely stored away in locked cupboards, fully compliant with COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) regulations.
4. Working Responsibly in a Care Environment
- Resident Interaction: Interact with vulnerable adults with mild to acute mental health conditions with empathy, warmth, and professional boundaries.
- Privacy and Dignity: Always knock and ask for permission before entering a resident’s room, respecting their personal space and choices.
- Safeguarding & Safety: Remain vigilant and immediately report any safeguarding concerns, noticeable changes in a resident’s behaviour, or environmental safety hazards to the care team.
Qualifications & Experience
- Experience: Previous professional cleaning or housekeeping experience is highly desirable but not essential as training is provided
- Knowledge: Basic understanding of infection control and safe chemical handling (COSHH) is preferred, though training will be provided.
- Background Check: Appointment is subject to a clean, enhanced background check (e.g., DBS in the UK) due to working with vulnerable adults.

- Compassionate & Patient: Comfortable working around individuals who may exhibit unpredictable behavior or distress due to mental health conditions.
- Attention to Detail: A sharp eye for cleanliness, ensuring corners aren't cut and high standards of hygiene are consistently met.
- Organisational Skills: Ability to manage your own time, balance daily cleaning tasks with scheduled deep cleans, and maintain neat inventories.
- Discretion: Absolute respect for resident confidentiality and privacy.
Working Conditions & Benefits
- Hours: Shifts would be 9-2 monday to friday - occasional weekend if needed
