About us
We are a new, small and growing logistics business based on the England/Wales border, between Oswestry and Welshpool.
We currently operate a single 44-tonne curtainsider, primarily undertaking RDC work, and we're looking for a dedicated Class 1 Tramper Driver to join us.
This is a role suited to an experienced driver who enjoys being trusted to get on with the job. You’ll be given the keys to the truck, your work for the week and the responsibility to manage your own time and hours properly.
There will be very little day-to-day micromanagement, so we’re looking for someone who is reliable, self-motivated and comfortable working independently.
The role
Your responsibilities will include:
- Safely and legally operating a 44t curtainsider.
- Completing daily vehicle checks and reporting any defects promptly.
- Managing your driving time, working time and rest periods correctly.
- Carrying out RDC deliveries and collections.
- Using apps for vehicle tracking, electronic PODs and communication.
- Looking after the vehicle and reporting any maintenance issues.
- Dealing professionally and courteously with customers and site staff.
- Managing your own working day and ensuring you stay within the legal requirements for drivers' hours and working time.
- Completing all paperwork and digital records accurately.
- Following company procedures and all relevant road transport legislation.
What we're looking for
You must hold:
- A valid Class 1 (C+E) HGV licence.
- A valid Driver CPC.
- A valid Digital Tachograph Driver Card.
We’re looking for someone who:
- Is reliable and takes pride in their work.
- Is comfortable working independently with minimal supervision.
- Takes safety and legal compliance seriously.
- Has a good understanding of drivers' hours and working time regulations.
- Is happy using smartphone apps for tracking, PODs and communication.
- Is friendly and professional when dealing with customers and site staff.
- Takes care of the vehicle they are responsible for.
Previous experience with tramping and RDC work would be an advantage.
Pay & overtime
The contract is for 45 hours per week, usually Monday to Friday.
In addition:
- £25 overnight payment, paid in accordance with HMRC guidelines.
- Weekday and Saturday overtime: paid at time and a half.
- Sunday and Bank Holiday work: paid at double time.
What you can expect from us
We’re a small business, and we want to keep the working environment that way — friendly, relaxed and straightforward.
We don't believe in unnecessary micromanagement. If you're doing the job safely, legally and professionally, we'll trust you to get on with it.
We're not going to pretend we have a fleet of brand-new trucks either — don't expect a flashy new truck! What you can expect is a well-maintained vehicle, a relaxed working environment and the opportunity to become an important part of a small business as it grows.
Pay: From £15.38 per hour
Expected hours: 40.0 – 60.0 per week
Benefits:
Work Location: On the road
