Job Title: Quality Specialist - Equine
Hours of Work: 37.5 hours p/w
Salary: £28,000.00 - £35,000.00 per annum
Location: Birmingham (Homebased with national travel)
Contract Type: Permanent
Summary of Role:
The Quality Specialist is accountable for assuring and continuously improving the quality of assessment, teaching, learning and internal quality assurance within the Equine vocational area. The postholder will lead formative and summative quality assurance activity, maintain accurate and compliant records, support Trainer‑Coaches/ Assessors to achieve high standards, and use quality intelligence to inform improvement planning, standardisation and CPD. The role directly contributes to regulatory compliance, learner success and inspection readiness.
Key Responsibilities / Accountabilities
The postholder is personally accountable for the following outcomes:
1. Learner Progression and Timely Achievement
· To carry out formative and summative sampling of learner evidence to ensure decisions are valid, reliable, consistent and fully compliant with awarding organisation regulatory requirements.
· Monitor learner progress through midpoint and ongoing sampling activity, identifying learners at risk of falling behind planned end dates (PEDs).
· Agree and document remedial action plans with Area Managers and Trainer‑Coaches /Assessors where learners are behind, and follow up to ensure actions are completed and effective.
· Use progression data and sampling evidence to challenge underperformance and escalate concerns in line with quality procedures.
2. Quality Assurance of Teaching, Learning and Assessment
· Plan, conduct and evaluate observations of teaching, learning and assessment in line with Haddon’s OTLA policy.
· Produce clear, evidence‑based reports with SMART actions that drive measurable improvement.
· Track improvement actions and hold Trainer‑Coaches to account for progress over time.
3. Coach, Mentor and Develop Staff
· Provide structured coaching, mentoring and feedback to Trainer‑Coaches to improve assessment decisions, feedback quality and learner experience.
· Support the induction, training and ongoing development of new Trainer‑Coaches/ Assessors, ensuring they understand quality expectations from the outset.
· Support and assess trainee Assessors working towards the CAVA qualification, ensuring consistent standards and accurate assessment decisions.
4. Standardisation and CPD
· Plan, deliver and evaluate standardisation meetings to ensure consistent assessment practice and grading decisions across the provision.
· Maintain accurate CPD records for designated Assessors and Trainer‑Coaches, ensuring compliance with awarding organisation and regulatory expectations.
· Identify common themes and training needs from quality activity and contribute to company and team CPD plans.
5. Compliance, Audit and External Quality Assurance
· Support preparation for, and participation in, awarding organisation, DFE, Ofsted and other external quality assurance visits.
· Contribute to internal quality audits and ensure actions are completed within agreed timescales.
· Ensure documentation, records and evidence are accurate, current and inspection‑ready at all times.
6. Quality Strategy and Continuous Improvement
· Support the Quality Manager and Quality Lead in reviewing and updating quality assurance strategies, policies and procedures.
· Actively contribute to the Self‑Assessment Report (SAR) and take ownership of allocated actions within the Quality Improvement Plan (QIP).
· Use data and qualitative evidence to identify trends, risks and opportunities for improvement within the Equine Care provision.
7. Safeguarding, Welfare and Professional Standards
· Monitor safeguarding and wellbeing indicators identified through quality activity and escalate concerns appropriately and promptly.
· Work safely and professionally with adults at risk, children and young people, in line with safeguarding, Prevent and data protection requirements.

Essential Criteria
· Evidence of assessing staff or learner competence, at the level or above of the EPA and Regulated Qualifications
· Experience of leading meetings/structured interviews/discussions
· Demonstrable experience of working within a front-line role for the standard
· Demonstrable experience of working within an industry role in a range of settings/environments
· Evidence of commitment to maintaining CPD, in line with the vocational specialism
· Experience of complying with quality assurance/regulatory requirements
· To hold appropriate qualifications in specialist vocational area e.g., Level 3 or equivalent as a minimum
· To hold or be working towards a quality assurance qualification
· Excellent IT skills that include Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
· To hold (or equivalent) or achieve Level 2 Functional Skills Literacy and Numeracy and ICT
· Relevant teaching qualification (Minimum PTTLS) or Education and Training level 3 or 4
· Digitally competent and confident
· Demonstrable commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion
· Suitable to work with adults at risk, children and young people
· Knowledge of prevent & safeguarding
· Full driving license, willing to travel across England
Desirable Criteria
· Experience of making grading judgements
· Recent DBS
· Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills, including the ability to effectively respond to conflicts
· Ability to understand and respond to the individual needs and circumstances of employers/Apprentices
· In-depth knowledge of the associated apprenticeship standard, assessment plan, specification, assessment instruments and recording tools
