The vacancy
Sight Scotland and Sight Scotland Veterans is looking for a part-time Driver (20 hours) to join our team supporting veterans with sight loss in West Lothian. This role plays a vital part in ensuring veterans can attend the Activity Hub by providing safe, reliable transport and a welcoming, friendly presence. As one of the first points of contact each day, you will help create a positive experience for veterans, building rapport during journeys and supporting them to access vehicles when needed. The role offers a friendly and supportive working environment where your contribution makes a meaningful difference.
You will be responsible for driving a minibus or car to transport veterans safely to and from the Activity Hub and other locations, while adhering to all road safety and health and safety regulations. Duties include assisting passengers, ensuring seatbelts and wheelchair restraints are used correctly, and maintaining the vehicle through routine checks, cleaning, and reporting any faults. The role requires flexibility, with split shifts typically between 08:30–10:30 and 14:30–16:30, alongside occasional additional duties as required.
The ideal candidate will hold a clean driving licence with D1 entitlement, be a strong communicator, and demonstrate patience, flexibility, and a positive attitude. You should be comfortable working independently and as part of a team, with the ability to adapt to changing situations and build positive relationships. A commitment to training, adherence to policies and health and safety procedures (including PPE), and PVG scheme membership (or willingness to obtain it) are essential for success in this role.
