About IPDR
Industry Partnership for Digital Railway (IPDR) is a national and cross-industry enterprise with the mission of creating the next generation railway, through the deployment of European Train Control System (ETCS) digital train control technology. This represents a migration to a safer, higher-performing, more resilient, more efficient, better skilled, more productive, and greener railway, delivering passenger benefits in the areas of safety, punctuality and resilience, and taxpayer benefits through reduction in capital and whole life costs.
IPDR leads the Digital Signalling Portfolio to oversee the wider rollout of ETCS across Great Britain and make it easier for Regions and schemes to deploy ETCS. Through the portfolio we will co-ordinate and deliver fleet fitment activities, work to develop robust, repeatable approaches to technical delivery and business change, increase supply chain capability and capacity, and deliver initiatives to build the industry's capability to efficiently plan, design, deliver, operate and maintain an ETCS railway.
Do you have experience working on large enhancement projects, experience as a Strategic Planner or Sponsor, or experience working as a Development Manager in a multi-asset environment with a wide range of stakeholders and are looking for a new challenge? We think we have the perfect opportunity for you!
This is an exciting opportunity to be a big system thinker as part of our Solve Once workstreams in the Digital Signalling Portfolio. Our Solve Once workstreams are focused on finding solutions to challenging national problems working with existing ETCS programmes, industry bodies, suppliers and internal teams to develop policy, templates, guidance and best practice to make ETCS deployment more straightforward for the future. These "solve once" workstreams will evolve to meet ongoing deployment needs and will cover a wide range of topics with each workstream needing to be founded on a clear problem statement and system-level thinking. Examples of what you could be working on include defining a national speed restriction management system solution, cost models and benchmarking or providing guidance on project lifecycle documentation.
This is a highly visible role with great industry exposure. This is a stepping stone into Digital Signalling. To succeed, you'll need to be a strong problem solver who can challenge and collaborate in an evolving environment and feel comfortable setting direction rather than following it. Solutions are likely to be iterative, so you will need to adapt continuously, show initiative in finding effective delivery methods, and apply best practice in decision-making. You will also need to consider people impacts and look for opportunities to reduce costs.
This role can be based in either London or York.
