Gearbox Gurus Ltd | Wimbledon, London
Full-time | Office-based
£28,000–£42,000 base depending on proven experience + uncapped commission
Realistic first-year OTE: £45,000–£62,000+
For an exceptional candidate with a proven record at a senior level, we are open to discussing a package beyond this range.
Gearbox Gurus is a specialist automatic transmission repair company operating across London and the wider UK.
We handle high-value repair work, with typical jobs running into several thousand pounds, in a specialist market where technical knowledge and strong customer communication matter.
We’re a small, founder-led business. That means you’ll have a direct impact on results from the beginning and, for the right person, a genuine opportunity to take increasing responsibility for the commercial and operational side of the business as we grow.
No layers, no politics. Your numbers speak for themselves.
The Role
You’ll own the sales pipeline while helping keep the repair work you win moving efficiently through the business.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Handling inbound telephone and online enquiries
- Qualifying prospects and understanding vehicle faults and customer requirements
- Preparing, explaining and following up repair estimates
- Handling objections and closing high-value repair work
- Recording all activity accurately within our CRM
- Maintaining a clean, accurate and actively managed sales pipeline
- Progressing customers from enquiry through booking, repair and handover
- Coordinating collections, diagnostics and repair progression with workshops, suppliers and drivers
- Identifying delays and problems on active jobs and getting them resolved
- Ensuring authorisations, invoices and documentation are completed correctly
This is a sales-led role.
Closing work drives your commission. The operational side exists to ensure the jobs you win are properly managed and the customer receives the standard of service they were sold.
What You’ll Need
You must have genuine, demonstrable experience within a professional sales, service-advisor, account-management or similarly target-driven commercial environment.
You should already understand:
- Qualification and needs discovery
- Objection handling
- Structured follow-up
- Pipeline management
- Closing
- Sales targets and KPIs
- CRM discipline
You must be confident discussing and asking for business worth several thousand pounds.
Systems Discipline Is Essential
Our operation is heavily systems-driven.
If it happened, it goes in the CRM. If a follow-up is required, it gets scheduled. If something changes on a job, the system gets updated.
We are specifically looking for someone who is already accustomed to working within structured processes, CRMs, pipelines, workflows and measurable targets.
You will regularly have multiple enquiries, customers and active jobs requiring attention simultaneously. You need the organisation and discipline to manage that workload without dropping details.
You will also need to learn quickly. Automatic transmissions are technically complex. We don’t expect you to arrive knowing every gearbox, fault code or repair procedure, but we do expect you to become commercially competent with the product quickly.
Relevant Experience
Automotive experience is a strong advantage, particularly backgrounds such as:
- Automotive Service Advisor
- Automotive Sales Executive
- Workshop Controller
- Automotive Aftersales
- Repair or service sales
However, strong professional salespeople from other industries will absolutely be considered.
What matters is evidence that you have sold professionally, worked to targets, managed a pipeline and operated within structured systems.
This Is Not an Entry-Level Sales Position
General retail experience, an unrelated graduate position or simply having worked with customers will not, by itself, constitute the professional sales experience we’re looking for.
We would rather make that clear here than waste your time applying for a position that isn’t appropriate for your experience.
Pay & Progression
We’re transparent about how earning potential works.
Base salary: £28,000–£42,000
Your starting base will reflect the experience and capability you can demonstrate during the recruitment process.
Someone with substantial relevant automotive, sales and operational experience may enter towards the upper end. Someone with strong sales fundamentals but more to learn about the industry may enter lower and have the opportunity to progress quickly.
For an exceptional candidate — someone with a proven record running sales or aftersales at a senior level, who can operate with minimal supervision from the start — we are open to discussing a package beyond the advertised range.
Commission: Uncapped
Commission is paid on the work you close. Strong performance therefore has a direct impact on what you earn.
Realistic first-year OTE: £45,000–£62,000+
There is no artificial ceiling for somebody producing exceptional results.
Three-Month Performance & Salary Review
There will be a formal performance and salary review after your first three months.
We’ll assess:
- Sales and conversion performance
- Pipeline management
- CRM and systems discipline
- Product and technical knowledge
- Organisation
- Operational understanding
- Customer communication
- Ownership and reliability
This isn’t simply a probation box-ticking exercise. It’s your opportunity to demonstrate what you’re actually capable of once you’ve learned the business.
Your base salary can only move up at your three-month review — never down.
If you join towards the lower end of the range and demonstrate that you’re performing at a substantially higher level, we’ll recognise that.
For someone who learns quickly, produces numbers and takes genuine ownership, there is significant scope for increased earnings and responsibility.
Longer term, the right person has a genuine opportunity to take substantial responsibility for the commercial operation as the company grows.
