WJ Timber Treatments Ltd is looking for a driven, pro-active Site Manager to lead our timber treatment team and manage our busy facility in Rochester, Kent. This is a unique, grassroots opportunity where you will learn our specialised timber treatment preservation business from the ground up. You do not need a background in timber treatment—we will teach you the technical aspects to the role
Responsibilities
- Team Management: Work alongside your dayshift and night-shift team leaders to ensure smooth production schedules, commitment to quality and to ensure a flawless handover and operational transition from the daytime shift to the night shift. Ensure adequate staffing levels and effective team performance. Cover shifts if necessary.
- Engineering & Maintenance: Co-ordinate planned and reactive maintenance programs. Identify and implement improvements to equipment & processes.
- Order & Inventory Management: Work alongside our office administrative personnel to track timber treatment orders comprehensively from the initial Purchase Order (PO) setup phase right through to final invoicing. Track critical levels of critical and non- critical raw materials and equipment.
- Port Logistics: Maintain constant communication and build strong working relationships with our port operators and stock controllers, Scotline Terminal (Transit) Ltd, to synchronise incoming orders and outgoing treated packs.
- Hands-On Operations: Learn and supervise the plant’s high/low-pressure treatment plants, oversee yard workflows, and safely operate FLT Counterbalance machinery when required to support the team.
What we are looking for
- The Right Mindset: Highly motivated, visible, and eager to lead from the front rather than just sitting behind a desk. You will demonstrate that you can participate in every aspect of the site’s operations.
- Proven Leadership: 3–5 years of supervisory or managerial experience in heavy manufacturing and industrial yard operations. Multi-shift management experience preferred.
- Engineering: Some depth of knowledge or background in engineering would be advantageous in this role
- Licensed: A valid, current UK FLT Counterbalance Licence or experience driving FLT’s is essential
- Process Minded: A strong eye for detail with strong administrative aptitude to confidently track order life cycles from PO to invoicing.
- Great Communicator: Excellent verbal and written skills to manage crucial cross-shift handovers and collaborate with external stakeholders.
- Safety Qualifications: IOSH, NEBOSH, SMSTS, or COSHH coordination knowledge is preferred.
