Job Title: Activities Co-ordinator
Responsible to: Care Home Manager / Senior Care Team
Job Purpose:
To plan, organise, and deliver meaningful activities that promote the physical, emotional, social, and cognitive wellbeing of residents. The role is focused on enhancing residents’ quality of life by encouraging independence, supporting personal interests, reducing isolation, and creating a welcoming community within the care home.
Key Responsibilities
Activities Planning and Delivery
- Plan and deliver a varied programme of daily activities based on residents’ interests, abilities, and preferences.
- Organise group and one-to-one activities, ensuring all residents have opportunities to participate.
- Adapt activities for residents living with dementia, reduced mobility, sensory impairment, or other health conditions.
- Encourage residents to maintain hobbies, skills, and interests.
- Support residents to take part in meaningful occupations that promote confidence and independence.
Types of Activities May Include:
- Arts and crafts
- Music sessions, singing, and reminiscence activities
- Games, quizzes, and puzzles
- Exercise and movement sessions
- Gardening activities
- Cooking and baking sessions
- Reading groups
- Film afternoons
- Celebrations for birthdays, cultural events, and seasonal occasions
- Outings and community visits
- Pet therapy or visits from entertainers
Resident-Centred Support
- Build positive relationships with residents, families, and colleagues.
- Learn residents’ life histories, preferences, abilities, and personal goals.
- Encourage inclusion and ensure activities are accessible to all residents.
- Provide companionship and emotional support.
- Recognise changes in residents’ mood, behaviour, or wellbeing and report concerns appropriately.
Dementia and Mental Wellbeing Support
- Use person-centred approaches when supporting residents with dementia.
- Use reminiscence and sensory activities to stimulate memories and communication.
- Promote dignity, choice, and respect at all times.
- Support residents who may experience loneliness, anxiety, or reduced confidence.
Family and Community Engagement
- Encourage relatives and friends to participate in activities and events.
- Help create links with local schools, community groups, entertainers, and volunteers.
- Assist with organising special events and celebrations.
Documentation and Administration
- Maintain accurate records of activities provided and resident participation.
- Record resident feedback and evaluate the effectiveness of activities.
- Contribute to care plans and reviews where appropriate.
- Complete risk assessments for activities and outings.
- Follow health and safety procedures.
Team Working
- Work closely with care staff, nursing staff, managers, and other professionals.
- Communicate residents’ interests, achievements, and concerns to the wider team.
- Support a positive, respectful, and inclusive care home environment.
- Attend staff meetings and training sessions as required.
Skills and Experience Required
- Experience working with older people or in a care environment is desirable.
- Ability to engage and communicate effectively with residents.
- Creativity and enthusiasm for organising activities.
- Patience, compassion, and a positive attitude.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good organisational and time-management skills.
- Understanding of confidentiality, safeguarding, and dignity in care.
- Awareness of dementia and person-centred care principles.

Hours and Working Pattern
- Hours 25 per week
- May include weekends, evenings, and special events depending on the care home’s needs.
