Job Overview
Sovereign Group Ltd is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Chef/Cook to manage the day-to-day operation of our employee canteen. This is a standalone catering facility providing high-quality breakfasts and lunches to employees each day. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and preparing fresh, nutritious meals, maintaining exceptional food hygiene standards, managing stock and costs, and ensuring an efficient and welcoming dining experience for our workforce.
This position would suit a chef/cook who enjoys working independently, takes pride in delivering consistently high standards, and is passionate about providing quality food and excellent service.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and serve a variety of freshly cooked breakfast and lunch options each day.
- Develop seasonal menus that provide nutritious, varied, and cost-effective meals.
- Ensure all food is prepared and presented to a high standard.
- Manage all aspects of food safety, hygiene, and compliance in accordance with current legislation.
- Order and manage stock levels, ensuring efficient stock rotation and minimal waste.
- Monitor food costs and work within agreed budgets.
- Maintain a clean, organised, and safe kitchen environment at all times.
- Liaise with suppliers to source quality ingredients and catering supplies.
- Respond positively to employee feedback and dietary requirements where reasonably practicable.
- Manage the day-to-day operation of the canteen independently, ensuring a reliable and consistent service.
Experience & Skills
- Proven experience as a Chef, Cook, or Catering Manager within a commercial kitchen, café, workplace canteen, or similar environment.
- Strong knowledge of food preparation, menu planning, and nutritional considerations.
- Sound understanding of food hygiene, HACCP principles, and food safety regulations.
- Experience managing stock control, ordering, and food cost management.
- Ability to work independently and effectively manage a standalone catering operation.
- Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
- Friendly and professional approach with a commitment to customer service.
- Relevant food hygiene qualifications are desirable.
