Finance Assistant – Maternity Cover
We are seeking a detail-oriented, numerate, and proactive Finance Assistant to join our finance team. This role will involve working closely alongside the current Finance Manager, with the expectation of working independently during their maternity leave.
This is an excellent opportunity to develop your skills within a dynamic organisation, supporting key financial operations and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records.
There is a potential for this role to become permanent and full time for the right candidate. After initial training, the 21 hours may be conducted over three 7-hour days, or can accommodate school hours.
Once probation has successfully been completed, there is the potential for an increase in salary for the right candidate.
Key Responsibilities:
- Using in-house property management software to issue and monitor service charge demands and payments
- Preparing financial reports for multiple sites
- Assisting with and responding to financial queries relating to each site
- Supporting the maintenance of efficient financial processes
- Providing assistance to senior finance staff as required
This is a customer-facing role, requiring strong communication skills and the ability to handle financial queries professionally and confidently.
About You:
- Previous experience in a finance or accounting role is advantageous but not essential
- Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy
- Numerate, organised, and proactive approach
- Confident communicator with good interpersonal skills
- Willingness to learn and develop within the role
While financial experience is important, formal qualifications are not essential.
The successful candidate will play a vital role in supporting the finance function and ensuring smooth day-to-day operations.
- Assist with day-to-day financial transactions, including processing invoices, expense claims, and payments
- Maintain accurate and organised financial records and filing systems
- Support the preparation of financial reports and statements under supervision
- Reconcile accounts and ensure all transactions are correctly recorded
- Liaise with suppliers and clients regarding billing queries and payment status
- Help with the organisation of financial documentation for audits and compliance purposes
- Contribute to the improvement of financial procedures and internal controls
- Perform administrative duties related to finance, such as data entry and document management
Skills
- Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail
- Good numerical ability and proficiency in basic accounting principles
- Familiarity with finance software or ERP systems is desirable
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
- A proactive attitude with a willingness to learn new skills and processes
