Clay Coffee + Kitchen is a high-quality, premium café and kitchen opening in Gravesend, built around great food, excellent coffee and a genuinely welcoming, relaxing atmosphere.
The space itself is a big part of the experience. Clay features a beautifully designed, luxurious interior that feels calm, warm and inviting. Downstairs, the coffee bar and kitchen will serve a busy daytime trade with a strong focus on consistency, quality and pace. Upstairs, there is a dedicated children’s play space, making Clay a place where families, friends and professionals can all feel comfortable spending time.
Clay is designed to become a natural meeting point for the local community, somewhere reliable, elevated and friendly, where people feel proud to return and bring others for any occasion.
The Role
This is not a standard front of house role. We’re looking for team members who understand that great cafés are built on experience, not just service.
As part of the Front of House team, you’ll be the face of Clay, setting the tone from the moment guests walk through the door. You’ll create a calm, welcoming and polished environment where people feel looked after without it ever feeling forced or overdone.
This role is about reading the room, paying attention to detail and delivering a level of service that feels natural, confident and consistent. You’ll work closely with the bar and kitchen teams to ensure everything runs smoothly and every guest leaves wanting to come back.
You’ll be part of a small, high-quality team where standards matter and everyone takes pride in what they do.
What You’ll Be Responsible For
- Greeting and seating guests in a warm, confident and professional way
- Creating a welcoming, relaxed atmosphere throughout the café
- Taking orders accurately and efficiently
- Delivering food and drinks with care and attention to detail
- Maintaining a clean, organised and well-presented front of house space
- Anticipating customer needs and responding naturally
- Supporting smooth communication between the bar, kitchen and floor
- Helping maintain a consistent, high-quality customer experience at all times
Experience
We’re looking for someone who:
- Has experience in a quality café, restaurant or hospitality environment
- Understands the difference between good service and a great experience
- Is confident, personable and naturally engaging with customers
- Has strong attention to detail and takes pride in presentation
- Works well in a fast-paced environment while staying calm and composed
- Communicates clearly and works well as part of a team
- Is reliable, professional and takes ownership of their role
Opening Hours & Service Style
Clay will operate as a daytime café, opening 07:00–17:00 with shorter kitchen and table service hours.
