Drive Up Storage is looking for a reliable, practical and customer-focused person to help look after our self-storage facility in Widnes.
This is a varied, hands-on position combining general caretaking, maintenance, cleaning and customer assistance. The site is straightforward to operate, but we need someone who takes pride in keeping it secure, tidy and functioning properly.
The role would suit an experienced caretaker, maintenance assistant, handyperson or practically minded semi-retired person looking for regular part-time work.
The Role
You will normally attend the site each weekday morning to carry out general checks, maintenance and caretaking duties. You will also need to provide occasional call-out cover for urgent access, door, lock or site issues.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Carrying out routine checks around the storage facility
- Completing repairs and general maintenance
- Investigating and resolving straightforward problems with doors, locks, handles and hinges
- Using basic hand and power tools safely
- Keeping corridors, entrances, communal areas and the external site clean and presentable
- Sweeping, removing litter and dealing with minor spillages or mess
- Greeting customers and helping with basic access or storage-unit issues
- Reporting larger repairs or specialist work to management
- Keeping a simple record of maintenance issues and work completed
- Receiving occasional deliveries or providing contractors with access
- Attending occasional out-of-hours call-outs when agreed
You will not be expected to undertake specialist electrical, plumbing or structural work outside your experience or competence.
About You
We are looking for someone who is:
- Reliable, trustworthy and punctual
- Practical and confident carrying out minor repairs
- Comfortable using common hand and power tools
- Able to work independently and use their own initiative
- Friendly and professional when dealing with customers
- Observant and able to identify potential maintenance or security issues
- Physically capable of completing routine cleaning and maintenance tasks
- Able to attend the Widnes site promptly for occasional call-outs
- In possession of a full UK driving licence and their own transport
Previous experience in caretaking, property maintenance, facilities management, construction, storage, warehousing or a similar practical role would be helpful, although attitude and reliability are equally important.
Hours
The role is expected to involve approximately 15 hours per week, normally spread across weekday mornings.
Some flexibility will be required to attend occasional call-outs outside normal working hours. Call-outs will be paid separately, with a minimum payment of two hours per attendance.
The exact working pattern will be agreed with the successful applicant.
