Job Title
Activities Coordinator
St Andrews Care home are looking for an Activities Coordinator to join our friendly team.
Job Purpose
To develop and oversee an active living programme for each resident, which supports mobility, social contact, independence and fun so each and every one of our residents can thrive and live to their full potential.
Duties and Responsibilities
Planning and Administration
- Collaborate with nursing and other senior staff to make an assessment of the strengths and capabilities of residents in regard to activities of daily living.
- Ensure the home has appropriate and adequate stock of equipment including all arts and crafts materials, a variety of books, games, CD’s, DVD’s, Sensory equipment and musical instruments and that they are accessible to all residents. Ensure that a register is kept up-to-date of the equipment/stocks.
- Ensure that any risk assessments have been carried out prior to any new planned activity or event.
- Maintain, and update daily, appropriate written records of resident’s assessments, resident’s participation and activity evaluations in line with MPS Care Profile guidelines.
- Take a dynamic and confident lead in the home to promote the benefits of activities by contributing ideas to the Senior Team to ensure that a varied and imaginative weekly plan is available that meets the needs and capabilities of all the residents. The plan must be distributed to each resident and displayed in a public area in the home.
- Work with and take guidance from the Division’s Regional Sales and Marketing Manager as to how to improve the marketing of the home by capitalising on any planned events or activities.
- Work with the Home Manager and the Administration Team to lead the creation of a home newsletter which will be developed at the start of each quarter and made publicly available on the intranet. Also ensure that appropriate requests are made for collateral or marketing materials that will best promote any themed event.
- Organise fund raising events to build and maintain monies for the resident’s activities fund.
- Work with families to create a life history of each residents to use to plan meaningful person centred activities for residents.
- Assist residents at meal times
- Provide personal care as and when required
- Any other ad Hoc tasks
Delivery
- Devise simple and safe activities which encourage movement and maintain joint flexibility and the functional use of hands and fingers.
- Organise a creative and dynamic range of ‘themed events’ that recognise and celebrate annual, national, local and home events, dates or celebrations.
- Work with the senior team to ensure that the residents have full access to the home’s minibus and that it is used regularly for activities away from home.
General
- Ensure personal mandatory training is up to date
- Show skill and creativity in order to identify areas in which residents can demonstrate independence.
- Contribute to the annual activities audit programme.
- Attend and contribute positively to any Activity Co-ordinators Meetings which may be held.
- Enthusiastically promote activities that enhance the lived experience in the home whilst also supporting the cultural values, individuality and religious diversity of the residents.
- Liaise with the home’s management/administration team to be fully aware and work within the home’s activities budget.
- Work on a rota basis so that activities can be provided to our residents across the 7 day week and include occasional evening events.
- Adhere to the local safeguarding policy and follow the Duty of Candour requirements.
- Be willing to undertake further training to further enhance and develop skills within the role.

Full, clean UK driving licence.
