We’re Wynne and Co Chartered Accountants – a small but mighty, multi award winning practice based in West Wales. We do things differently here. Yes, we’re Chartered Accountants, but we’re also real people and have a family feel to the team. Our clients trust us because we give them straight answers and real support — and we do the same for each other.
We’re ambitious and growing quickly. We need another brilliant mind to join the team. We care a lot about the culture we’ve built which is open, respectful, inclusive and we want to protect it as we grow. We’re proud to be a neurodivergent and disability-inclusive employer.
We have obtained Disability Confident Leader Level 3 this year, and we genuinely walk the talk when it comes to flexible working, wellbeing and career development.
We’re not big on hierarchy or ego. We are big on kindness, teamwork and doing the work well. There is plenty of room for progression within our growing firm. We also embrace technology, using a wide variety of software and systems to support our clients and internally.
The role
We’re looking for an AAT Apprentice to join our growing team on a permanent basis.
This is a great opportunity for someone who is looking to start their career in accountancy, whether you’re a school or college leaver, looking for your first office-based role, or you’ve already started working towards your AAT qualification and want to gain practical experience alongside your studies.
You don't need to have previous accountancy experience. What matters to us is that you’re willing to learn, have a good attitude and want to become part of our team.
The role will be 35 hours per week, including time for college or study. Depending on the apprenticeship arrangement, you may attend college on designated study days or undertake your studies independently, with agreed time available for studying and completing your AAT exams.
You’ll learn from our experienced team while gaining hands-on experience working with real clients and their accounts. As you develop your skills and confidence, your responsibilities will grow with you.
Main responsibilities of the role
- Bookkeeping for small companies and sole traders
- Assisting with the preparation and filing of VAT returns
- Assisting with accounts and Self Assessment tax return preparation
- Using cloud-based bookkeeping and accountancy software
- Providing support to the accountants
- Communicating with clients and assisting with client queries
- Learning how to work with HMRC requirements and deadlines
- Maintaining accurate and organised client records
- Supporting the wider team with day-to-day accountancy tasks
As you progress through your training and AAT qualification, there will be opportunities to take on more responsibility and develop your skills across different areas of accountancy.
Who we're looking for
We're not expecting you to know everything — you're an apprentice, after all!
We're looking for someone who is:
- Keen to learn and develop a career in accountancy
- Interested in working towards an AAT qualification
- Reliable, organised and willing to take responsibility for their work
- Comfortable using computers and keen to learn new software
- A good communicator who isn't afraid to ask questions
- Able to work as part of a team while also developing the confidence to work independently
- Keen to develop good attention to detail
- Positive, friendly and willing to get involved
Previous office or accountancy experience would be an advantage, but it is absolutely not essential.
You don't need to have all of the skills listed above before you apply. We expect you to learn a huge amount during your apprenticeship and we'll support you along the way.
Most importantly, we want someone who is a good fit for our team and who genuinely wants to learn.
Where will I work?
The position will be based between our Carmarthen and Cross Hands offices, working on a rota basis.
We understand that travelling between two offices isn't practical for everyone, so for the right person we can consider basing the role primarily at one office where commuting between locations would be difficult.
What we offer
- A permanent position — we're looking for someone to join our team for the long term, not just complete an apprenticeship and move on
- An AAT apprenticeship and support towards your qualification
- 35 hours per week, including college/study time
- A genuinely supportive team and positive working environment
- Flexible working and a willingness to consider individual circumstances
- No real dress code – we care what you do, not what you wear
- Autonomy, trust and support as you grow in confidence
- Career development support — we invest in your future if you want it
- The opportunity to gain hands-on experience working with real clients
- Option for some hybrid working as you progress
- A workplace where you can be yourself and feel part of the team
Why work with us?
Starting your career can be daunting, especially when you're expected to somehow have experience before you've had the chance to get any!
We want to do things differently.
You'll have the opportunity to learn from experienced accountants, gain a recognised qualification and get genuine hands-on experience while being supported by a team that wants you to succeed.
We're a growing firm, so there is plenty of opportunity to develop your career with us beyond your apprenticeship. Our aim is for you to become a long-term member of our team and part of our work family.
If you're enthusiastic, curious and ready to learn, we'd love to hear from you.
How to apply
Please look us up for more information and send us your CV and a cover letter explaining why you think you'd be a good fit for the Wynne and Co team.
We get a high level of applicants when posting jobs, so please don't just send us a CV — tell us about yourself, why you're interested in accountancy and what you're hoping to get from your apprenticeship.
Whether you're leaving school, changing direction or have already started your AAT journey, we'd love to hear from you.
