Your role:
Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service is looking for a skilled LGV Technician to join our Fleet Services team at Leigh Technical Services Centre.
You will help keep our emergency fleet safe, compliant and operationally ready by inspecting, diagnosing, maintaining and repairing blue-light commercial vehicles, light vehicles, plant and associated equipment. The role will focus on planned LGV maintenance and emergency repairs, while supporting wider fleet and equipment requirements in line with organisational, DVSA and NFCC standards.
We are looking for a qualified and experienced technician with strong commercial vehicle maintenance skills, a professional approach and a commitment to high standards of safety, quality and customer service.
The role is based on a 36.25-hour Monday to Friday working week, with overtime as required. The postholder will participate in the out-of-hours standby/callout rota, currently 1 in 5 weeks, with retainer and overtime payments applied in line with the scheme.
About you:
You will be a skilled, practical and reliable LGV technician with experience in commercial vehicle inspection, maintenance and repair. You will take pride in delivering high-quality work that helps keep essential emergency service vehicles safe, compliant and available when needed.
You will bring a positive and professional approach, with the ability to work well on your own initiative and as part of a supportive team. You will be organised, safety-focused and committed to good customer service, accurate record keeping and continuous improvement.
We are looking for someone who communicates clearly, works respectfully with others and is willing to adapt to the needs of a busy fleet environment. You will be comfortable working in a workshop and at other locations, including occasional work outdoors, at height or in confined spaces, with appropriate training and safe systems of work in place.
