:1 SEMH Teaching Assistant – Outdoor Education

We are recruiting for a 1:1 SEMH Teaching Assistant to support children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs through an engaging outdoor education programme. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who enjoys thinking creatively, being active and helping pupils develop confidence, resilience and life skills outside of a traditional classroom environment.
No two days are the same. You could be supporting learning through woodland walks, beaches, parks, community activities, outdoor challenges and practical learning experiences, while also helping students work towards their individual educational and personal goals.
Full Training Provided
Before starting, you will receive a comprehensive week-long induction, including:
- Learning Outside the Classroom (LOtC) Training
- CPI Positive Behaviour Intervention Training
- Emergency First Aid
- Health & Safety Training
- Safeguarding and role-specific induction
The Role
- Provide dedicated 1:1 support for students with SEMH needs.
- Deliver engaging educational experiences in outdoor and community settings.
- Build trusting relationships that encourage confidence, emotional regulation and independence.
- Support pupils with both academic and personal development.
- Promote positive behaviour using therapeutic and trauma-informed approaches.
- Complete basic records and communicate effectively with the wider team.
What We're Looking For
- A caring, resilient and positive individual who enjoys working with young people.
- Experience in education, care, youth work, sports coaching or similar is advantageous but not essential.
- A passion for outdoor learning and relationship-based support.
- Excellent communication skills and a calm approach to challenging situations.
- A full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle.
- Business insurance (or willingness to obtain it before starting).
