Customer Service Adviser [Contact Centre]
Salary: £25,948 p.a.
Contract Type: 6-month fixed term contract, 37 hours per week
Location: Town Hall, Weston-Super-Mare – Hybrid (approx. x3 per week in the office)
We’re looking for a Business Support and Customer Service Adviser to join our Contact Centre team, supporting a range of services delivered on behalf of North Somerset Council.
This is a customer-focused role where you’ll be the first point of contact for residents, handling a variety of enquiries over the phone and helping people access the services they need. From questions about building and planning, to refuse and environmental services, no two calls are the same. You’ll play a key role in making sure every customer receives a helpful, professional and efficient experience.
Working as part of a supportive and collaborative team, you’ll help ensure services are delivered smoothly while making a real difference to the community.
What you’ll be doing
- Handling incoming calls from customers across a range of council services
- Providing clear, accurate and helpful information in a professional manner
- Managing a variety of enquiries, ensuring each is resolved or directed appropriately
- Logging and updating customer information on internal systems
- Making outbound calls where follow-up or additional information is required
- Supporting service delivery by ensuring records and requests are processed accurately
- Working to service standards and performance targets
- Collaborating with colleagues and service teams to ensure a consistent customer experience
What we’re looking for:
We’re looking for someone who is confident on the phone and genuinely enjoys helping people.
- Experience in a customer service or contact centre environment
- Strong communication skills and a confident telephone manner
- The ability to handle a high volume of varied enquiries
- Good problem-solving skills and the ability to stay calm under pressure
- Experience using IT systems to log and manage information
- A positive, team-focused approach
- GCSEs (or equivalent) including English and Maths, or relevant work experience.
