Job description
Are you passionate about shaping responsible lending decisions and ensuring great customer outcomes? We are looking for individuals who are interested in taking the next step in their analytical career to join Nationwide’s Unsecured Credit Risk team and play a key role in driving forward the credit strategy and decisions across our Current Account and Overdraft portfolios.
As a Senior Credit Risk Analyst within the Current Account and Overdraft team, you will be at the heart of credit risk decision-making on one of Nationwide’s core portfolios, helping to ensure our lending strategies support key product propositions including our basic, main account and exciting growth areas in youth and student accounts.
You will ensure that our overdraft lending remains within risk appetite and regulatory expectations, and most importantly, meets our member’s needs.
You should be comfortable working on and leading a wide range of projects, setting an example and coaching analysts, working with large data sets to pull out trends, as well as explaining complex problems in a simple way. You’ll relish the chance to engage with senior leaders across the business and be prepared to think of the bigger picture and challenge existing processes.
This is an exciting opportunity for a credit risk professional who combines strong analytical thinking with excellent judgement, stakeholder management and a passion for continuous improvement. You will help drive the credit risk strategy and lending approach on key current account portfolios, ensuring we continue to lend responsibly while supporting our members’ financial needs.
If you thrive in a collaborative environment, enjoy influencing outcomes at a strategic level, and want to make a real impact within the UK's largest building society, we'd love to hear from you.
About the Team
At Nationwide, our members are at the heart of everything we do. The Unsecured Credit Risk team helps ensure we lend responsibly across our Credit Card, Personal Loan and Current Account products. The team manages credit risk, maintains lending policies and governance, and provides expert advice to support safe, sustainable growth.
The Current Account & Overdraft team is responsible for managing the credit risk of the Current Account and Overdraft portfolios, including designing effective new lending strategies, ensuring lending granted remains within risk appetite and regulatory expectations, and most importantly, meets our members needs with good customer outcomes.
Purpose of the Role
As a Senior Credit Risk Analyst within the Current Account and Overdraft team, you will be at the heart of credit risk decision-making on one of Nationwide’s core portfolios, helping to ensure our lending strategies support key product propositions including our basic, main account and exciting growth areas in youth and student accounts.
Impact on Our Members
The work of this role directly supports Nationwide’s ability to lend responsibly and fairly. By developing credit strategies that are effective, compliant and aligned to risk appetite, you will be contributing to delivering the right outcomes for members, protecting them from harm, and maintaining the long-term financial strength of the Society. By supporting our key current account products, you will be part of a wider team that ensures we have a range of accounts that meet member needs across all life stages from our award-winning youth and student propositions through to our main range of current accounts.
We are happy to consider flexible working approaches to help you perform at your best.

What you’ll be doing
You'll spend your time making sure our Current Account and Overdraft lending strategies and decision-making processes are working as intended and delivering good outcomes for our members. Credit Risk is central to the success of the management of Current Accounts and Overdraft lending across the lifecycle from new account origination through to supporting our members when they are in payment arrears. As such you will work closely with colleagues across Credit Risk, Product teams, Collections & Recoveries and Compliance, providing expert Credit Risk insight and opinions to help drive forward work across teams.
When you are not working on industry leading lending strategies you will be investigating trends, coordinating deep dives into our MI and data to produce proactive, thoughtful insights into key committees.
About you
Significant credit risk experience within a UK banking, building society or consumer lending environment, with a strong understanding of unsecured lending products and credit risk strategy management
Advanced Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint skills, including the ability to analyse data, produce management information, and create high-quality reports and presentations for senior audiences. You will be comfortable using vlookups, pivot tables & formulas as examples
Highly analytical, with experience in data manipulation using SAS or an equivalent programming language to deliver risk insights
Strong knowledge of the UK regulatory framework for consumer credit and lending, with experience ensuring credit risk activities, policies and governance arrangements meet regulatory expectations
Demonstrable experience planning and delivering credit risk strategy changes and insights, including lending strategies, strategy change testing, data driven or qualitative insights
Evidence of influencing outcomes and driving improvements through effective stakeholder management, working collaboratively teams to drive through strategic change, or influence and ensure risks and controls are created and considered to support work not directly owned by Credit Risk
