The Room Attendant plays a vital role in ensuring a high standard of cleanliness, comfort, and presentation in guest bedrooms and bathrooms. The role requires a strong work ethic, excellent attention to detail, and a professional, guest-focused attitude at all times. Room Attendants contribute directly to the guest experience and uphold the reputation of the establishment through consistently high standards of service and appearance. This job description outlines the main responsibilities but is not exhaustive; additional duties may be assigned as necessary to meet business requirement.
Key Responsibilities
Guest Bedroom Servicing
- For check-out rooms, fully service the bedroom by:
- Stripping and changing all bed linen
- Making beds to standard
- Dusting surfaces and vacuuming all carpeted areas
- Removing all rubbish and ensuring the room is presentable and ready for resale
- For stay-over rooms, carry out a light service by:
- Making the bed and changing linen only if necessary
- Dusting surfaces and vacuuming as needed
- Emptying bins and working around personal items respectfully and carefully
Bathroom Cleaning
- For both check-outs and stayovers:
- Clean and sanitise the toilet, basin, shower/bath, floor, and mirrors
- Replenish toiletries and towels as required
- Remove all rubbish and ensure the bathroom is spotless and guest-ready
Room Presentation & Maintenance
- Replenish tea and coffee facilities, guest amenities, and in-room literature
- Check equipment (TV, lights, kettle, etc.) in all check-out rooms and report any faults or damages to Reception immediately
- Report any items left behind by guests to Reception and follow lost property procedures
- Complete a bed audit while changing beds to check for stains or damage on mattresses, pillows, and protectors. Report and complete a linen reject form where necessary
Additional Tasks & Duties
- Undertake general cleaning in public areas, dining rooms, and guest toilets when required
- Rotate duties with colleagues as per shift pattern or instruction from management
- Carry out any other reasonable cleaning duties as directed by the Head Housekeeper or Supervisor
Trolley & Linen Management
- At the start of each shift, prepare the cleaning trolley with sufficient linen, towels, toiletries, and amenities
- Maintain a neat, tidy, and fully stocked trolley throughout the shift
- Collect supplies from the stores as required and return used items at the end of the shift
Health and Safety Responsibilities
Health and Safety is everyone’s responsibility.
The post holder must:
- Comply with the Health and Safety Policy of WGC Ltd and site-specific procedures
- Use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and handle all cleaning chemicals in accordance with COSHH training
- Participate in required Health & Safety, Manual Handling, and Fire Safety training
- Report any hazards, unsafe conditions, or incidents immediately to management
- Maintain a clean and safe working environment for both staff and guests
Qualifications & Education
- A good standard of written and spoken English is essential
Experience Required
- Previous experience in a hotel housekeeping role is desirable but not essential
- Full training will be provided; the post holder must be capable of learning through observation and practice
