To support the Harley Street Medical Centre in the delivery of services, working as part of the practice multidisciplinary teams, delivering care within their scope of practice to the entitled patient population. The healthcare assistant will deliver and assist clinical staff in the provision of treatment, preventative care, health promotion and patient education.
Working in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols.
The successful candidate will be required to work from Harley Street Medical Centre.
Hours of work: Contracted hours are negotiable and may be worked across the core hours of 8am to 6pm, Monday to Friday.
Primary Responsibilities
The following are the core responsibilities of the Health Care Support Worker. There may be on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:
- Support the practice nurse with health promotion programmes
- Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature, pulse rate, recording findings accurately
- Facilitate routine and 24-hour BP monitoring, advising patients accordingly
- Support the clinical pharmacist with the management of chronic disease clinics
- Carry out BMI checks as directed
- Phlebotomy
- Undertake venepuncture
- When trained, administer flu vaccinations
- Complete chronic disease reviews
- Complete FAA (facilitation admission avoidance) reviews
- Carry out ECGs as requested
- Working at surgery locations and completing home visits
- Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation
- Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the practice IPC policy
- Deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate
· Ensuring samples are stored in appropriate containers
· Accurate, legible labelling of all samples to confirm patient identity
· Checking patient identification against GP/nurse request and confirming with patient whenever possible
· Ensuring that anomalies are reported to a senior member of staff
· Notifying the GP/nurse of any significant patient issues
· Liaising with and assisting members of the administrative team
· Restock consulting rooms
Secondary Responsibilities
In addition to the primary responsibilities, the healthcare assistant may be requested to:
- Participate in practice audits as directed by the audit lead
- Participate in local initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient care
- Support and participate in shared learning within the Primary Care Network
