Location: Codsall, South Staffordshire
Hours: Full-Time, 42.5 Hours per Week (5 Days Including One Weekend Day)
Salary: £28,000–£29,000 per annum (Dependent on Experience)

As we continue to grow, we are excited to be opening a brand-new shop in Codsall and are looking for a friendly, enthusiastic and food-passionate Food-to-Go & Deli Assistant to join our new team.
This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a premium fresh-food retailer and help establish our new shop within the Codsall community.
The Role
As a Food-to-Go & Deli Assistant, you will work across our food-to-go and delicatessen sections, preparing, displaying and serving a wide selection of high-quality fresh food.
Our food-to-go range includes takeaway breakfasts, freshly baked sausage rolls and pasties, hot lunchtime meals, sandwiches, baguettes and salads.
You will also serve customers from our traditional delicatessen counter, slicing freshly cooked ham, beef, pork and turkey while offering friendly, knowledgeable and efficient customer service.
This is a varied, hands-on role within a busy fresh-food environment. You will take pride in producing high-quality food, creating attractive displays and delivering an excellent experience for every customer.
Key Responsibilities Food-to-Go Preparation and Service
- Prepare, cook and serve takeaway breakfast items.
- Bake and display sausage rolls, pasties and other hot food products.
- Prepare and serve hot lunchtime meals.
- Make fresh sandwiches, baguettes, salads and other cold food-to-go products.
- Follow company recipes, portion sizes and presentation standards.
- Maintain attractive and well-stocked hot and cold food displays.
- Monitor product quality, freshness, temperatures and holding times throughout the day.
- Support the introduction of seasonal specials and new food-to-go products.
- Provide fast and efficient service during busy breakfast and lunchtime periods.
Delicatessen Counter
- Serve customers from the delicatessen counter in a friendly and professional manner.
- Slice and serve cooked meats, including ham, beef, pork and turkey.
- Safely operate and clean commercial meat-slicing equipment.
- Accurately weigh, price, package and label products.
- Prepare attractive cooked-meat and fresh-salad displays.
- Maintain excellent product availability and presentation throughout the trading day.
- Provide customers with product information, recommendations and serving suggestions.
Customer Experience
- Welcome customers and deliver friendly, knowledgeable service.
- Develop a strong understanding of our food-to-go and delicatessen ranges.
- Make suitable product recommendations and answer customer questions.
- Provide accurate information regarding ingredients and allergens.
- Build positive relationships with regular customers and the local community.
- Support colleagues across the wider shop when required.
Stock Control and Waste Management
- Replenish counters, displays and grab-and-go fridges throughout the day.
- Follow correct stock-rotation and date-control procedures.
- Monitor stock levels and report products requiring replenishment.
- Assist with receiving, checking and correctly storing deliveries.
- Minimise waste through careful preparation, portion control and stock management.
- Accurately record waste and report any recurring issues.
- Maintain high product availability without compromising freshness or quality.
Food Safety and Compliance
- Follow all company food-safety, HACCP, COSHH and allergen-control procedures.
- Complete required temperature checks, cleaning schedules and due-diligence records.
- Prevent cross-contamination and provide accurate allergen information.
- Maintain excellent standards of personal hygiene.
- Keep counters, equipment, preparation areas and storage spaces exceptionally clean.
- Follow all company health-and-safety procedures.
- Support the store in maintaining a 5-star EHO food-hygiene rating.
Essential
Training will be provided where required.

- Ability to work efficiently during busy trading periods.
- Excellent standards of cleanliness and personal hygiene.
- Strong attention to detail, particularly when handling allergens and date-controlled products.
- Ability to follow recipes, procedures and food-safety instructions.
- Reliable, punctual and comfortable working as part of a team.
- Positive and hands-on approach to work.
- Ability to work one weekend day per week.
Desirable
- Previous experience within a delicatessen, café, bakery, sandwich shop, farm shop or other fresh-food environment.
- Experience preparing sandwiches, baguettes, salads, breakfasts or hot food.
- Experience serving customers from a delicatessen or fresh-food counter.
- Experience operating a commercial meat slicer.
- Level 2 Food Safety and Hygiene qualification.
- Knowledge of allergens, stock rotation and food-temperature controls.
- Experience using weighing scales, tills or product-labelling equipment.
Previous experience would be beneficial, but it is not essential. Full training will be provided to the right person.
