About the Role
Southbank Club is a large independent health and fitness club in Vauxhall, with a gym, six squash courts, studios, changing rooms, sauna, steam room and social areas.
We are looking for a practical, hands-on Maintenance Operative to take responsibility for the day-to-day upkeep of the club.
The role is suited to someone who can spot problems before they become bigger issues and is comfortable completing a wide range of repairs themselves, while knowing when a specialist contractor is required.
Main Responsibilities
- General repairs and maintenance throughout the building
- Basic plumbing, including toilets, taps, showers, drains and leaks
- Basic electrical work such as replacing fittings, switches and lighting where appropriately qualified
- Carpentry, joinery and general building repairs
- Painting, decorating and minor plastering
- Maintaining doors, locks, handles, hinges, fixtures and fittings
- Regular inspection of changing rooms, showers, sauna and steam areas
- Identifying and resolving drainage issues
- Basic maintenance and fault finding on gym equipment
- Regular checks of gym machines, cables, bolts and moving parts
- Maintaining Concept2, Wattbike and other fitness equipment where possible
- Carrying out minor repairs around the squash courts
- Keeping plant and maintenance areas organised
- Completing scheduled preventative maintenance rather than waiting for equipment to break
- Recording maintenance completed and outstanding issues
- Identifying health and safety hazards around the club
- Meeting and supervising external contractors when specialist work is required
- Helping with small refurbishment and improvement projects around the club
What We're Looking For
We don't necessarily need someone who is qualified in every trade. We're looking for someone who is genuinely practical and capable of dealing with the majority of everyday maintenance issues themselves.
Ideally, you will have:
- Previous maintenance, facilities or handyman experience
- Good general plumbing knowledge
- Basic electrical knowledge
- Carpentry/joinery skills
- Experience with general building repairs
- Good fault-finding and problem-solving skills
- Experience maintaining gyms, leisure centres, hotels or similar large buildings would be a major advantage
- Ability to work independently and manage your own maintenance schedule
- Good attention to detail
- A proactive approach – if you see something that needs fixing, you deal with it
The Main Goal
We want someone who takes ownership of the building.
Rather than constantly relying on external contractors for smaller jobs, this person should keep on top of the club every week, carry out preventative maintenance and make sure the facilities are safe, working properly and presented to a high standard for members.
Pay: £20.00 per hour
Benefits:
- Free parking
- Gym membership
Work Location: In person
