We're looking for someone exceptional
Urbin Waste is growing rapidly — and we're looking for a sharp, ambitious and highly organised Accounts & Finance Administrator to join our team in Vauxhall.
This isn't a role for someone who wants to sit quietly processing invoices all day.
We're looking for someone who is switched-on, commercially minded, takes ownership and thrives in a fast-paced environment.
You'll become a key member of the Urbin team and will have responsibility for the day-to-day financial administration of the entire business.
From raising invoices and chasing payments to processing supplier invoices, managing payroll, dealing with customer and supplier queries, reconciling accounts and keeping on top of fines and financial administration — you'll have your finger on the pulse of the business finances.
And because we're growing, there is significant opportunity for the right person to progress, develop their career and ultimately build and manage their own finance team.
What you'll be responsible for
This is a varied, hands-on position covering all aspects of Urbin's day-to-day finance administration.
Accounts Receivable
You'll help make sure Urbin gets paid accurately and on time.
- Raising customer invoices.
- Checking billing information and resolving discrepancies.

- Credit control and chasing overdue invoices.
- Allocating customer payments.
- Managing customer account queries.
- Investigating billing issues with the operations and commercial teams.
- Processing credits and adjustments.
- Maintaining accurate customer records.
Accounts Payable
You'll make sure our suppliers are paid correctly and our purchase ledger is under control.
- Processing supplier invoices.
- Checking invoices against agreed rates and supporting information.
- Managing supplier statements.
- Preparing payment information.
- Investigating discrepancies.
- Dealing with supplier queries.
- Maintaining accurate supplier records.
- Ensuring invoices are correctly recorded and allocated.
Payroll
You'll play an important role in ensuring our people are paid accurately and on time.
- Preparing payroll information.
- Checking timesheets and overtime.
- Processing holiday and absence information.
- Managing payroll queries.
- Liaising with payroll providers/accountants where required.
- Maintaining confidential payroll records.
- Supporting PAYE, pensions and related administration.
Fines & Financial Administration
You'll also take responsibility for the administration and control of business fines and associated financial matters.
This will include:
- Recording and monitoring fines.
- Investigating fines and identifying responsibility.
- Liaising with drivers, managers and relevant authorities.
- Ensuring fines are dealt with within required deadlines.
- Maintaining accurate records.
- Supporting the business in identifying trends and reducing unnecessary costs.
General Finance
You'll be involved in the wider financial running of Urbin, including:
- Bank reconciliations.
- Account reconciliations.
- Month-end preparation.
- Finance reporting.
- Monitoring business expenditure.
- Maintaining accurate financial records.
- Supporting external accountants.
- Preparing information for management.
- Managing the finance inbox.
- Dealing with finance-related queries from customers, suppliers and staff.
- Identifying errors, discrepancies and potential cost savings.
- Improving finance processes and systems.
In short — you'll have involvement across the entire finance function.
Who we're looking for
We're looking for someone who is sharp, ambitious and hungry to progress.
Someone who sees a problem and thinks:
"I'll sort it."
Not:
"That's not my job."
You'll need to be comfortable working in a business where things move quickly, priorities change and there's always something happening.
You'll ideally have previous experience in:
- Accounts administration.
- Accounts payable and receivable.
- Invoicing.
- Credit control.
- Payroll administration.
- Finance administration.
Experience with accounting software and strong Excel skills would be an advantage.
However, attitude is just as important as experience.
If you're bright, organised, numerate, willing to learn and have the drive to build a career in finance, we'd like to hear from you.
The Urbin Person
We're looking for someone who is:
Sharp
You pick things up quickly and don't need everything explained twice.
Organised
You know what's outstanding, what's due and what needs dealing with next.
Accurate
You understand that numbers matter and mistakes have consequences.
Proactive
You don't wait around for someone to tell you what to do.
Commercial
You understand that cash flow, costs, invoices and payments are fundamental to a successful business.
Confident
You're comfortable speaking to customers, suppliers, accountants, drivers, managers and directors.
Ambitious
You don't just want a job. You want to develop.
Resilient
It's a busy business. You need to be able to handle pressure, manage competing priorities and keep moving.
A genuine opportunity to progress
This is one of the most exciting parts of the role.
Urbin is growing — and we want you to grow with us.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop their skills, take on increasing responsibility and ultimately build and manage their own finance function/team as the business expands.
We are also committed to supporting the right person with further professional training and qualifications.
Whether that's progressing towards an AAT qualification, further accounting training or developing your management and leadership skills, we'll support someone who demonstrates the ambition and ability to progress.
The long-term opportunity could be to progress from:
Accounts Administrator → Accounts Manager → Finance Manager → Head of Finance
with the opportunity to build your own team around you.
